Hyper-threading and crashes...
Hi,
I have been having a bunch of problems keeping the OOTP running. I would sim just a few games and it would crash. I removed and re-installed the game...turned off sound...turned off directX....etc....etc...but still kept getting crashes. Tried everything... Then I thought about DISABLING the "hyper-threading" feature in my laptop's Bios...re-installed the game again...and the game seems to be running very smoothly now...I have simmed through several seasons with no crashes! I was wondering if anyone else out there had a similiar experience? I may try turning on DirectX and sound to see if the problem is directly related to Intel's HT feature. Here is the system info: Dell Inspiron 9100 Intel P4 3.20 Ghz (Hyper Threading DISABLED) 512MB RAM ATI Radeon 9700 64MB Video Card Windows XP (5.1 build 2600) DirectX 9.0c Thanks, Kevin |

That actually might make sense. Hyperthreading allows two tasks to occur simulataneously - like two CPUs. If something else is running in the background on the 2nd thread while OOTP is doing something in the 1st thread - you can end up with a conflict if both applications try and access the same resource when they don't know about each other.
