Paint Shop Pro for Logo-making

I'm about to make a Amazon purchase and I saw that they're running a special on Paint Shop Pro 9 for $49. Would this suffice for basic logo making? Does it have all the features (layering, etc.) that people have discussed in these threads?

Yes, and Yes. PSP9 is what I use exclusively.

PS: I used PSP 7 and PSP 8 before 9 and they were fine as well.

I use PSP 8 exclusively for logos now. It does a good job and was the best value for my dollar.

I recently received it as a birthday present and I am overwhelmed with the features it has. I am trying to go through the 500 page user manual because I don't have a clue how to use it yet. Does someone here have a quick tutorial for making logos using PSP.

LOL, no not really. Any high-end graphics program has literally thousands of options, and there's always more than one way to do things. The best suggestion I would have is to dive in and try things - forget the manual unless your stumped and need some ideas on how to get something done. Change your mode of thinking from "what command does this" to thinking in terms of layers and how I might use those to do what I need.

Example, I was trying to get an image to be "under" one layer in one place and "over" that same layer someplace else. There's no command to do that, but I figured out if I split the image into two parts, I could set them at different levels to accomplish what I wanted.

Experiance, creative thinking, and a ton of hours will go a long way

Yeah, now that I realize everything is in layers, its a lot like Flash, which I've used before. I just don't see a tool to make curved text.

Chris - go to moonsdesigns.com - they have a bunch of tutorials that show you some of the basic features of PSP.

Yes, the tutorials will help a lot (at least the better written ones will). Curved text will take some practice since it's not intuitive. Getting text across the top left-to-right is pretty easy, but going left-to-right on the bottom requires a series of steps that MUST be done exactly in the right order. Getting text to follow a vector curve (and look good) can be even MORE fun
