Really stupid question about player development modifiers

I've never actually messed with this part of the game before and I'm just wondering if I want the players to develop faster or at an earlier age do I give it a positive rating?? Same goes with aging, if I want players to age slower and play longer do I give it a negative or positive rating?? I've always been confused on this. lol

Not exactly

+ means they develop faster
- vice versa

+ means they age faster

That was pretty much what I was thinking, I just didn't want to do anything stupid before I tinkered with it. Thanks a lot.
