So, they cancel the season and then 2 days later have an "agreement in principle"? Makes sense.

I don't know how anyone else feels, but this has got to be a great thing for MLB and NBA owners all over.

Though the NHL wasn't exactly the strongest in terms of ratings and revenue in comparison to the MLB and NBA, the owners won. They cancelled the season and now the players are scrambling to figure something out so they can play.

This could help the owners of the NBA push for their idea of limiting maximum contracts to 4 years instead of the 7 being offered now.

For the NBA, perhaps.

But the MLBPA is too strong for MLB owners to pull this off. It would never happen, IMO.

Hockey is a complete joke. I hope the league dies and something smaller and more efficient takes its place.

They are a bunch of pussys if they're really trying to salvage the season. Build it from scratch. If they started a season it would be such a joke...not a funny one for that matter. Whoever should realize their mistakes and do whatever is in their power to make the sport better.

Tell me what's different. Playing 25 games and playoffs. Or like baseball in 94 playing most of the season with no playoffs.

Sure the people running nhl & nhlpa are assclowns, but the game of hockey is no joke. It's a game with a long tradition just like baseball. At least hockey doesn't have a steroids problem.

People always say hockey is too violent for most americans to like it. Now that's funny.

What about that **** that happened in the nba this year in Detroit? Is that worse than the Bertuzzi incident last year?

In my opinion every sport has its ups and downs. The only exception lately is the NFL.

The NHL and NHLPA both need new leadership with fresh ideas.

Wouldn't it be funny if Gary Bettman gets the deal done with the Salary Cap, has it ratified, then says it's still too late to have a season, the deal will take effect next year?

Might happen. They don't have too much time to play with. First off, over 200 players are overseas. Over a hundred free agents. If they get a deal done by Monday it will be at least 2 weelks before a real game.

But no one cares.
The league is on the verge of financial collaspe.

They are slapping bandaids on a shotgun wounds.
There are things fundamentaly wrong with the game and the league and the are burying their heads in the sand.

Some people care and I'm one of them. I agree they have to make changes to make the game more attractive to the sometime fan. But to change it completely, no way. I f they get a good deal the game will survive where it's meant to survive. Not in Anaheim or Carolina or Florida but in Phily and Toronto and others. It's like if the NBA put a team in Alaska. Would it survive? No. At least in hockey when the season starts (when?) 10 to 12 teams have a chance at winning it all. In MLB, maybe 4. In my opinion MLB has been more of a joke than hockey. STEROIDS, Bud Selig and so called contraction, Yankees 1 billion team salary

.... And to think I bought NHL 2005 today for 30 bucks because I thought "Hey cancelled season=cheaper game and getting my hockey fix via that!"

There are a lot of people who care, a lot more than you think.

The league is far from the verge of financial collapse. The league is quite healthy financially and generates very good revenues. The problem is in how they are spending that revenue. They need a Cap, plain and simple. Make some changes to open the game up a bit more. Eliminate the centre line and you'll eliminate a lot of the clutch and grab. The speedy free wheelers will have a lot more room to work with and generate plays from. Make all rinks a standard size (I believe new rinks are meeting that but some of the older ones are still different). The firebrand hockey of the 70's and 80's was fun to watch. The neutral zone trap of the 90's wasn't nearly as exciting.

Hockey is a great game with millions of fans. When I say hockey, I don't just mean the NHL, I mean the sport of hockey. I hope they work something out this weekend and have a season, regardless of how short. I miss hockey, I miss it a lot. I've continued to follow minor hockey as I always have, but there's a big gap without the NHL and I would really like to have that void filled again.

C'mon guys, get it done.......

If they do wind up having an abbreviated season, the winner should get their names engraved on the Stanley Mug. This for-sh*t league doesn't deserve an entire trophy for what they did to their own game.

It's interesting to think what will happen with the Cup if they do have a season. Surely whoever wins won't really deserve their names on it.

Why can't they just have a huge Playoff or something with all teams involved.

How would you go about seeding that?

Last year's seeding. Or maybe play a 10 game season, then seed them for the playoffs. A Short Schedule, then a 16-team playoff seems kinda forced.
