Beginning on July 1,1947,anyone who would like to play in the league will be asked to go through a thorough skills evaluation where upon completion they will be able to make themselves avaliable for the upcoming inaugural draft which will be held on January 1,1948.Following the draft, teams will officially be required to hold spring training beginning on March 1st and ending on March 27th in order to prepare themselves for the upcoming season. As far as league structure and scheduling goes, teams will be split into two 5 team divisions as follows:

Harwich Brings In Gindville To Manage Club
Saturday, March 6th, 1948: Harwich Brings In Gindville To Manage Club
The Harwich Mariners have finally settled on a manager, and the choice was a shocking one, they've decided to go with an outsider, bringing in Philadelphia transplant John Gindville who's only managerial experience is a couple of little league teams and an American Legion squad. When asked about his curious decision,Mariners owner Michael McSwiggen told the CCBL reporter that "He simply blew me away with his plan to turn this team into a winner" when pressed a little more,McSwiggen admitted, "Look,I know what everybody here is thinking, but I'm telling you this is the right man for the job" We hope so,Mike,we hope so

Orleans Blanks Harwich In Season Opener
Eldredge Park,Orleans Ma.-Following a promising spring in which the Mariners just ripped the cover off of the ball, expectations were high as Harwich entered their opening day matchup with the Orleans Cardinals here in Eldredge Park. The game as it turned out,was a coming out party for Cardinals pitcher Bob "Lefty" Johnson(1-0) who stifled the Mariners holding them to just 6 hits and 2 walks while striking out 5 in 8 scoreless innings,as Orleans defeated Harwich 3-0.The turning point of the game came in the 7th,where with the game still scoreless, the Cardinals hit Harwich relievers Pedro Trujillio(0-1) and Jason Caldwell hard racking up 4 hits and 3 runs including a solo home run by 3B Mal Blackwell before finally getting out of the inning with the damage done. The teams will wrap up the series tomorrow with Harwich's Christian Rivers facing off with the Cards Wilber Pace.

Christensen's 3 Run Bomb In 5th Gives Orleans Second Straight Victory

Christensen going yard

Eldredge Park,Orleans,Ma.-For the second straight game, the Orleans Cardinals used the long ball to take down the Harwich Mariners.Today's hero was Cardinal SS Bobby Christensen who with two on and two out in the bottom of the 5th,destroyed a Christian Rivers(0-1) 1-2 curveball and deposited it into the right field seats giving Orleans a 3-0 lead in a game they would go on to win 3-2.For Rivers,it was the only mistake in an otherwise stellar performance that saw him give up 6 hits,1 walk and 3 earned runs in 8 good innings of work.Down 3-0 entering the 8th,the Mariners got RBI singles from RF Haywood Hull and C Gary O'Donnelan slicing to lead to 3-2,but Orleans pitcher Wilber Pace(1-0) had just enough to escape that inning and the next inning as well earning himself the hard fought complete game victory.Up next for the Mariners, they head to the friendly confines of Whitehouse Field for their home opener against the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox.

High Drama In Whitehouse As Mariners Win Home Opener 3-2
Whitehouse Field,Harwich,Mass.-In one whale of a ballgame, the Harwich Mariners finally got off the schneid thanks to RF Haywood Hull's walk off home run in the bottom of the 9th off of Y-D's Mac Rainey giving Harwich a dramatic 3-2 win.To win this game, the Mariners had to overcome not only Yarmouth-Dennis,who could very well be the best team in the league, but also the sudden loss of starting pitcher Doug Parkinson who strained his elbow in the second inning and had to be replaced by spot starter Bryce Davis. As If that wasn't enough, closer Franklin Hall who's expected to be the team's rock solid closer, blew his first chance to save a game by allowing 2 hits a walk and a run in the 9th turning a 2-1 lead into a tied ballgame headed into the bottom of the 9th,where Hull thankfully erased the mistakes of his teammate.
