Out of curiosity, how many copies has OOTP 4 sold so far ? I would guess it be around a couple of thousand, but dont know for sure.

*bump*

I was curious about this myself. There's over 1000 members on this list so I would guess at least twice that many copies have been sold.

Maybe we could do like the Cubs radio broadcast crew playing guess the attendence, "Guess the first week sales".

My guess is 2753.

It would be pretty rare for a private company to release sales numbers, but I would be interested in knowing too

I don't think it would be even close to 2,000 yet. It's only been a week. A lot of people won't buy it, or even find out about it, for another month or so.

If I had to guess, I'd go with 886 copies. No wait, 887.

Of course, I have absolutely no idea what the heck I'm talking about.

As i recall OOTP3 sold somewhere around 1000+ copies in it's first week. It seems as there has been a ton more interest in this years version but that doesn't mean it's sold more copies... maybe markus will be kind and let us know

ootp3 sold a lot more than 1000. The game was released in stores as Season Ticket baseball. The game was on Warez sites. Marcus is rolling in money now. OOTP3 was also a pharse of a game and Im mad I ever paid $30 for it. OOTP2 was so much better than 3 its not even funny, but I will say Congrats on 4 because its an improvement over 2 and not a disappointment. OOTP3 was like the 2001 version of the Boston Redsox. Yes it was that bad. But I guarantee you it gave Marcus Financial security until hes on his death bed.

OOTP4 count.. Id say around 3 or 4 thousand. People know about the game, just ask the Baseball Mogul people. BBK2002.... just like bbk99. At least Marcus actually adds stuff to the game. Again, I may sound bitter, but I like ootp4 and it was worth the money. 3 however... we wont go there.

I sure hope Markus is rolling in Euros right now !

He deserves it for putting out a quality product and being responsive to his customers.

Why do you think v2 was better than v3? Not to praise v3 or rant on v2 but I really didn't take the game very seriously until several key patches into v3.

Steve is this company policy ? I guess you do not want numbers out for OOTP 4, so is it possible to find out for OOTP 3? I dont mean to be rude, just wondering why.
thanks,
Aadik

while the financial system in ootp2 was bad.. it was fixable. You could set the finances at $45 mil for each team and the game would run smoothly and all would be good. The financial system in ootp3 makes it impossile on Online leagues to really stay out of the red when just to sign a career bench warmer cost $3.2 mil a year. Players ask for an absurd ammount of cash. The only thing ootp3 had on ootp2 was eye candy. The Spring training was a complete joke and had so many loop holes it wasnt funny. Youd turn scouts off, and when FA comes around, youd click on John Doe to see hes a GAGGA pitcher. YOu turn the editor on and find out hes really only AAGAA. The game was awful. I played it about a week and never bothered with it again. Player development almost seemed random. I realize real life development is random too but when you only have 5 guys added to your minors every year.. there should at least be some sense of predictability. If we drafted 40 guys a year I could understand.

I just didnt like the game and Im not alone. I know a lot of people who hated 3. Most people who liked 3 never even played 2.

I still have 2 on my harddrive its a classic and I still play it every now and then.

I might be able to help you guys on figures, though they're mostly supposition:

-- OOTP World had over 7 GIGS of bandwidth used as of Wednesday.

-- Rolen's Rosters are 1.2 MB
-- OOTP World was the first place to host Rolen's rosters, while the other add ons were hosted at BCB. So probably anywhere from 3500-5000people downloaded those rosters

-- I doubt too many of you re-downloaded them, certainly not 3.5 gigs worth.

Complicated though it may be, I figure the game has sold 3500 or so copies, which is pretty darn good

I was not a fan of the way coaches and spring training were done in v3 either and I also enjoyed v2 a lot, but the game breaker for me was forced full-screen mode, when the v3 patch that fixed that came out I uninstalled v2 and have not returned. v3 will meet the same fate as soon as all my online league switchover.

IMO we are best off abandoning that sinking ship that is Off Topic to the rats infesting it and just starting a whole new Baseball Forum from scratch.
