What is Catobase?

I'm long time OOTP user but new to the forums; there's a lot of talk and anxiety it seems over this Mod Catobase....can someone explain to me what it does and why I would want to use it. Thanks for helping out one behind the curve.

I'm actually thinking about trying this for my new online league...which files need to be downloaded to get this working? Also, how much space would it take for 12-team league and a 24-team league on a website??

You can download the Catobase utility here:

http://www.ootpdownloadcenter.com/utilities.html

To give you an idea on space. The NGBL features 32 teams spanning 9 seasons in the Catobase and the HTML files take up 230 MB.

We are into our second season, will we still be able to get the first season info into cato or would it be lost?

Only if you have the end of season file for season one.

Think of CATOBASE as the in game ALMANAC - on STEROIDS...

Great utility and I would not have half of the enjoyment from this game without it... CATOBASE simply exports your OOTP stats, loads them into a DATABASE and uses the database to create HTML files similar to the BASEBALL-REFERENCE site on the web. There are some cons to using this - because of it being able to process a lot of data and creating literally thousands of pages, the program can become slow to run between seasons when building the html pages. Once you have this utility it will be hard not to use it in your leagues - IMHO
