Anyone else experiencing lock-ups when you minimize the OOTP4 screen and then try to maximize it? Doesn't happen all the time but it happens every once in a while.

First of all - if it's the same guy thanks for all the great HH downloads... great stuff.
I have found the game to be extremely stable. I haven't had it crash, and minimized/maximized about a hundred times while writing up a short review for my buddy. |

What OS are you using? I've heard some XP users mention having this problem. Havent had that problem with win98SE.

Helli thanks!
If I wouldn't have gotten so disgusted over the HH series I'd still be doing it. The taste is bad enough from 2002 that might keep me from buying 2003. XP is what I have. I meant to post that but I got bugged by a few people AIM-style. Makes a little sense if more people are having troubles than just myself.

That must suck. I'm usually checking the boards here or AIM'ing for my online league while I play, so not being able to minimize would be very annoying.

Otops, out of curiousity, how much RAM do you have? I'm running XP with 256 MB RAM and when I maximize again, it'll stall for a second but eventually maximize.

I minimize and maximize ALL THE TIME to post here and over at FOF Central. I'm running XP and have had no problems whatsoever. The issue may be RAM-related, which is very cost-effective to upgrade. I've got 512 MB Ram.

Most WinXP problems have general fixes. It seems to be hit-or-miss if you're an XP user, with most problems being caused by small driver issues. Regardless of the application/program that's giving you fits, try the following:
-update the drivers for your video card -replace new drivers with older drivers that are known to be stable (Nvidia owners are familiar with this) -under Display Properties select the Appearance tab. Change the Windows And Buttons drop down menu to Windows Classic Style. Select the Effects button and turn all the effects off. This tip fixes many stability issues with Trillian, mIRC, and many PtP clients like Gnucleus. -Right click on My Computer and select Properties, then select the Advanced tab. Select the Performance button, select the Visual Effects tab then select the Adjust For Best Performance radial button. If you select different radial buttons in this window it will overwrite/restore settings previously selected under Display Properties/Appearance so you may need to change those again. -Back to Display Properties but this time select the Screen Saver tab. Change the Screen Saver drop down menu to (None). Next select the Power button. Change the System Standby drop down menu to Never. Select the Hibernate tab then de-select (turn off) Enable Hibernation. Under the Advanced tab I always disable the Sleep button (my daughter loves banging on my keyboard when I go afk and she would always hit the Sleep button which causes my system to lock up). You also may want to change the Turn Off Hard Disks time to something more reasonable like 2 hours (under the Power Schemes tab, same place you changed the System Standby to Never). A friend of mine that does some psuedo-professional programming (VB and C++) has explained to me that WinXP's Luna style desktop has some niggling issues with drawing windows and buttons and such, dependent on hardware. Therefore most compatability problems cannot be replicated across different systems or driver versions. However most of these stability problems are solved by turning the new, nifty looking WinXP desktop off. |

I'm getting the same thing. I'm running Win2k Pro with 384MB RAM.
doesn't happen much, but it's just like when I started playing OOTP3 on here again. I was playing Full Screen to fix the display problems(I always used an 800x640 desktop) and then I'd Alt-tab out to something else and try to come back in and I'd get a black screen. As for OOTP4, I get the Title bar up top, but nothing else. Have to go to Task Manager and end it. Can't pinpoint exactly when it happens, but it's happened while running Magic: Online at the same time before. But running 384 RAM should make me pretty safe, but it still happens...

I might as well add this:
If you're using WinXP - turning off (using Windows Classic) the Luna desktop/gui fixes the following issues: -The "Non-scrolling" news ticker at bottom of ootp4 window scrolls perfectly. -The "Windows Bar" (top of window that reads: Out Of The Park Baseball 4 (c) 2002 Mark Heinsohn) covers 1/2 top of the drop down menus. Changing to Windows Classic desktop fixes this. -Alt-Tabbing to task switch causes ootp4 to return as a black screen. With Windows Classic desktop feel free to Alt-Tab to your heart's content. Although this doesn't seem like it will help those of you using Win2k with this problem. This is all I've discovered so far. The only thing I really miss from the Luna desktop is the date (ie: 03/07/2002) being listed with the clock. It's still available if the taskbar is increased to 3 times it's normal width but that takes up too much screen real estate. I hope this helps some of you. *PtP RiP* [ March 07, 2002: Message edited by: civbat ]</p> |

I'm running XP (1.4GH, 384MB RAM) GEforce 2 video card, DX 8.1
I had the problem where I minimize (in windowed mode), then maximize, and come up with a blank OOTP window (no not responding, just nothing in the game window). I updated the video driver (had problems with last one and DX 8.1) with a newly released driver, and problem appears to have gone away. |

ME is the devil. That OS is pure evil. A bastard child of 9x and 2k.
I'm having no minimizing issues on 2k or 98SE.

It seems each new OS that Microsloth releases just has it's own unique set of problems. A lot of ppl I talked to said 98SE is the most stable of the lot, although I heard 2000 is good too. ME is supposed to be pretty good as a fresh install, but the ME upgrade, I'm told, is indeed the spawn of Satan. Then there was that stuff about XP being so hacker friendly. it's all a blur to me. This is why I prefer staying 3-5 steps behind in the OS race. Just felt like getting that out, because it took about 8 months of cautious investigation before I finally bit the bullet and said goodbye to Win95 (BTW, OOTP gave me ZERO problems on Win95. In fact, I never had a significant crash of ANY kind in 6 years with Win95...go figure.) Edit- Also heard that XP has serious hardware compatibility issues. i.e. My Voodoo3, which was the sheet when I bought it, and now is unsupported (is that right? 3dfx dissolved it or something) It's hard/impossible to find an XP driver for Voodoo. I love 2000. It's my favorite OS yet. I did however wait a year before getting it. Always wait a year before getting MS software.
I dual boot with 2k and 98SE. 2K runs everything but games, and 98SE is only games. Life is good.
