New Divisional Alignments
I'm thinking about sprucing up my MLB league with some new Divsional alignments. Possibly even putting the NY and Chicago teams in the same divisions. Any have some suggestions for some new geographic based alignments?

You could do Northeast, MidAtlantic, North, South, Midwest, and California:
Northeast (4) NY Yankees NY Mets Boston Toronto Mideast (4) Philadelphia Pittsburgh Washington Baltimore North (6) Seattle Detroit Cincinnati Cleveland Milwaukee Minnesota South (6) Florida Tampa Bay Atlanta Houston Texas Arizona Midwest (5) Colorado Kansas City St. Louis Chicago Cubs Chicago White Sox California (5) Oakland San Diego San Francisco Anaheim Los Angeles If you're starting a custom league, this will do. But if you're shuffling an already existing league, you might have to switch one team from a 6 division to a 4 division to make it fit. I think you can use "Create Division" and "Create Team" to make it fit, but it's a lot of work. You can change the name of the Northeast Division to the New England Division. Only one team (Boston) is actually in New England, but it might make it sound better than having Northeast and North. Last edited by DiMaggio5CF; 01-05-2005 at 11:24 PM. |

The completely regional breakdown, as opposed to regional breakdown within each league, like above is one interesting idea - more like the NBA & NHL.
With talking about NY & Chicago teams in the same division, I was thinking along the lines of putting teams in divisions with teams of similar market sizes, maybe even with all the bigger markets in the same league and all the smaller markets in the other league. |

Gah! Radical realignment!
Sorry, this is one of my hugest pet peeves, stemming back from when Commissioner Bud was considering the idea.

North East Mets and Yankees Blue Jays Red Sox Mideast Phillies Pittsburgh Baltimore Washington Central Cubs and White Sox Twins Tigers Brewers Reds Indians South Orlando Braves P.Rico Marlins Devil Rays Midwest Cardinals Royals Rockies Memphis Texas/Mexico Rangers Astros Dallas Monterry California LA LA of Anahiem A's Padres Giants West Portland Las Vegas Seattle Arizona You could also put both Chicago's and New York's in the same divison |

Whenever I allign divisions, it's a MUST that I have a United States map in front of me and first locate the cities in which teams will play. Nothing bothers me more than having a team that clearly should be in a West division placed in the Central.

I don't know if you would be interested in this, but you could add to fictional teams and make a North, South, East, West in each leauge with 4 teams in each division. If you wanted to put NY and Chicago in the same division, they could both be in North. You don't have to add two teams, you could align the teams using those same divisions. I have done both. Worked out pretty well. It changes the champions for any given year. Its interesting.
