Hey Marsh, What exactly is your goal? Are you trying to get your OOTP reports to your website? Can you explain your situation in detail?

Be glad to help!

thanks for the help. I hear that the ftp thing is great, and you don't have to upload every single file individually. i hear it takes like 10 min. I really need that for my league. but im not sure how to get it? and use it once ive gotten it. im new to ootp5, so i don't know a whole lot. but my uploads have been taking 40 min every day, and i can't go on for ever like that.

thanks

FTP help

The time it takes to upload all of your files also depends on your internet connection speed and the distance between you and your webhost. OOTP has ftp built in. I'm guessing that you know how to do it but you want to speed up the process? In that case:

1. Get the highest speed internet connection possible.
2. Make some adjustments in your pc to free up RAM. (see my post in "Pc slow or bogging down?"
3. Defragment your hard drive.
4. Sign up and pay for a reliable webhost that supports ftp in an area near you. If you live in California, sign up with a webhost based in California.
5. Create a subdomain NOT just a folder on your website with the name reports (just an example!). Now your website's URL is www.you.com and your league reports will be at www.reports.you.com.
6. Now in the ftp settings in OOTP,
FTP SERVER ADDRESS: www.reports.you.com
USER NAME: reports@you.com (verify the username when creating subdomain)
PASSWORD:********(verify the password when creating subdomain)
LOCAL STARTING DIR: / (that's right, just a simple slash!!)
PORT: 21

7. If you want an easy to use and free ftp program, download Filezilla at: http://filezilla.sourceforge.net/ . It's somewhat faster than OOTP but maybe only about 10-15% faster though. It's a good program in that it bullies it's way through ftp errors and get's your files in no matter what! If not, simply remove the failed uploads from the que and try uploading ONLY the failed ones. They go in smooth as!

8. Try to minimize what you upload. Do you need game logs? Or can you run your sims more often and sim shorter periods so your reports cover fewer days of the schedule?

Hope this helps,

Fidel

Subdomains

A subdomain works like an independent website but it's actually part of your main website, or "domain". A domain is your website's name, which registers as your property across the world wide web and which you have the rights to. By registering a subdomain, you are actually registering another website address that is part of your main domain that you have already paid for.

By having a subdomain, you can make it accessible for uploading files via FTP through it's own username and password, thus protecting your username and password that you use for your main domain. You also can make short URL's for accessing it such as www.sub.main.com. and OOTP can connect directly to it's main folder by designating a simple "/" (slash) as the target directory.

Then, if you want to access your OOTP reports just go to www.(subdomain).(maindomain).com

Hope this helps. Ask more Q's, I'll answer.

If your webhost doesn't have an option to create subdomains, I'd recommend finding one that does. Your files can become a mess if you can't organize and there are hackers who'd probably love to download your league file, decipher your password and screw up your website.
