manager mode question

Something I've wondered about for a long time but hadn't gotten around to asking:
When in manager mode, does the AI play just as it would against an AI team? and, do players play according to random chances weighted by their ability scores (or do in-game human management choices affect at all how players play)?

I know that (well, I hope that..) these are silly questions..
I hope that its just paranoia that occurs when I make a bad managerial choice and the AI team goes on to explode offensively and exploit every last bit of that poor choice on my part...that it is just paranoia that has me scratching my chin between games and saying "I wonder..."

The reason I haven't asked these particular questions before is that I hope that it is just temporary paranoia on my part and that the game plays intelligently dumb...er..or is it dumbly intelligent? (as though it would in the absence of goodness and badness of human choices)

I suppose that I'm mostly just putting this post out here to hope for reassurance from someone "in the know" on this that all that paranoia really is just a product of my imagination.
