Guys,
My database utility is now posted. It can be downloaded at <a href="http://www.ootplinks.com/wallman/OOTPUtil.EXE" target="_blank">http://www.ootplinks.com/wallman/OOTPUtil.EXE.</a> This utility takes the HTML files from the end of the year and parses them out into a database. It can then generate some fairly informative HTML pages. You need Java 1.4 installed on your system. This download can be found at <a href="http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/download.html" target="_blank">http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/download.html.</a> Click on the "Windows (US English only) and "JRE" option. It is a little bit of a download (~9 MB)... Please read the README! It is also below: OOTP Database Utility V1.0 README PREREQUISITES: - Before this program runs, it needs the following things set up on your machine: - Install the Java 1.4 JRE on your machine. - If you are running Win9x or WinNT, you need to download the MDAC 2.52 release from Microsoft. This is found at <a href="http://www.microsoft.com/data/download.htm#252Info" target="_blank">http://www.microsoft.com/data/download.htm#252Info.</a> USING THE UTILITY Once the utility is launched, select File->New League Database. Select the directory where your HTML files live and click on the OK button. If you have a directory that has numerous years in it and has the directories labeled by year, select the top level directory and it will import all your years at once. After the first year is imported, it will prompt you to enter in team abbreviations. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU PRESS RETURN AFTER EACH ONE, EVEN THE LAST ONE. Java seems to have a problem recognizing using the arrow key or the mouse as a way to enter and exit the table, so it will not pick up the abbreviations. After you import a year, you can choose File->Add New Year to add another year or choose Actions->Generate HTML Reports. This will generate the baseballreference-type HTML files. Once those files are generated, they are located under your <install dir>/html/<league name> directory. There should be a index.htm file there. Double click on it and it will bring up the HTML pages. TROUBLESHOOTING * The application will not run! Help! Make sure that you have Java 1.4 installed on your system! It can be found from the link above. * The league seems to import, but it blows up on generation of HTML files. If you have a Win9x or WinNT machine, make sure you download the MDAC 2.52 release from Microsoft. * The awards hyperlink isn't working. What is the deal? I'm working on it. * What is PSN? What is XBH? I don't know these abbreviations! I will write a glossary for all of these stats eventually. Just haven't gotten around to it yet. * What is this 'UNK' in my player stats? He isn't from the United Kingdom! Nope, but the utility doesn't know which team he was on from past seasons, so it lists his team as "UNK" or Unknown. I'm running the program now. I'll have a report for those who care when it's done (if it's tonight...this is 101 seasons on a 650MB processor).

Just tested things out with the first 7 years of my HOB2. Reports look fantastic.
I do have one question. The awards option is not working for me. Did I do something wrong or is it not active yet? Thanks.

Tiger,
In the first post of this thread, Wallman states that the awards are not working yet. Hopefully this is something that will be working shortly; however, for now, it's a work-in-progress. Peace John |

Absolutely amazing....... 9 out of 10
Congrats, Wallman, this is by far the best OOTP utility EVER. I'm already dumping pages from my league site to post the new ones. The only complaint I have is obviously unavoidable. Since it imports its data from the web pages, some stats for years before the league was started are missing, messing up the totals. One question.... Since I'm running an active league, simming 3 times a week, how do I update the pages? Do I select "Import New Year" from the file menu and reselect the current year or do I have to start over? One bug.... I'm running WinXP, and for some reason the shortcut on the Start Menu doesn't work. I checked to make sure it was pointing in the right direction, but I still have to go to the OOTPDBUtil folder and double-click on the batch file. THANK YOU!!!!! THIS IS WHY I LOVE THIS GAME!!!!!!

Unless I am doing something wrong, I see expansion and realignment (Anything that causes the games team id to change) causing problems with the team history.
Cleveland had a team ID of 3 in my first season, but because Chicago folded in the the second season, Cleveland's new id was 2 and New York changed from 4 to 3. Now when I look at New York's History, The program thinks that Cleveland became New York. The only way I see around this is to make sure each team keeps the same team id from year to year. Other than this, The utility is working great. Thanks for all the hard work put into this thing. |

this utility sound great! one problem though. the text, after I open the program is unreadable (too small). I checked my fonts, etc. and they looked ok (although I not that that familiar with where exactly to check). I haven't noticed and text problems anywhere else either. Does anyone know what I need to change to make it larger?
here's a screen <a href="http://home.ptd.net/~edfick/ootputil.jpg" target="_blank">----HERE----</a> thanks in advance |

nevermind, I fixed it. I swithed my text size from 8 to 10 and it got larger. I then switched back to 8 and now it's ok.. go figure
