Looking for a League.
Well I'm now ready to get my feet wet in an online league or 2. As a longtime veteran of Baseball Mogul which I have now given up, I think I am pretty familiar with how things work. I am a becoming very familiar with the solo portion and now I want a real challenge
I am a very dedicated GM, but I am sure I will have some questions so if you are looking for OOTP vets, I'm not your guy. What kind of league(s) am I looking for? 1. Historical (1950-2000) or Fictional. 2. Since I am kind of new to the online league thing, I really don't want a league that has a rulebook of 100 pages. A couple of these leagues are getting a little carried away with their rules. Draft Picks for signing a free agent? Heh. That's it. So please either email me at blacksunshine1941@yahoo.com or post here if you have a league that is interested in taking on a new and dedicated GM. Thanks ![]() Oh yeah, almost forgot. OOTP 6 is what version of the game I have so that is kind of important too. And... If the league already has a nice history built up that is another bonus. Thanks again Last edited by MogulChamp; 11-09-2004 at 10:47 PM. |

Because thats how MLB works. It is more work for a commish, and ads some different strategy into off season free agency. Definitely not for someone looking for a little more simplicity in a league. More designed for leagues that are really trying to emulate the majors.

The logic is its part of a way to help the small market teams who don't have enough money to retain their top talent.
Free Agents are lumped into something like 3 or 4 different classes. The "type" of free agent you lost indicates your supplemental pick. BTW - how long did you play BBMO? Do I know you? Its a relatively small community but I left BBMO about 18 months ago. Last edited by DaveHorn; 11-10-2004 at 04:39 PM. |

Mandersen, you almost had me there for a second. I hope you weren't serious...But you are right Dave, that is a way to keep it competitive, but there are better ways than that I would think. Revenue Sharing, Luxury Tax, or of course, just turn Financials off Anyhow. I'm still looking, so surely someone needs a good GM. |

I should have clarified..............you don't lose picks, but teams that lose free agents are compensated, depending on the classification with supplemental picks. In ootp, some leagues have decided to use draft picks as compensation rather than supplemental picks. There IS compensation for losing a class A or B free agent I believe.

Lol - Financial off. The NHL is trying that right now....I'd wager its not going to work out well for anyone long term.

See posts about the UBL and OBL for possible leagues. The UBL has a strong fictional/real player mix and is about to start its 10th season. It started as a Baseball Mogul league and has converted several times over the years.

Yes, Major League Baseball has a rather complicated system in place in which teams give up and get picks for signing or losing a Free Agent.
http://www.cincypost.com/2004/11/02/...1-02-2004.html My league has a less complicated system which has turned out to be quite popular in practice. |

Matt you were right the first time.
In real life this past year the Angles picked 12th and took Jared Weaver, due to their Colon signing and Guerrero, they didn't pick again until 113th in the 4th round. Batimore didn't have a pick between 8 and 79 because of Tejada, Javy Lopez, Palmiero. Your Cubbies didn't even pick at all until 66. etc. -Bob |

Well I have found a fictional league. I am still looking for one more league, preferably a historical league. Not a deadball era team however. Anyone else have an opening?
