Sammy Sosa for Shawn Green?

According to ESPN and a few emails i get, The Cubs could be ready to ship Sosa to LA for Shawn Green.

What's everyones take on this? Good or bad for the Cubs? Good or bad for the Dodgers?

Good for the Cubs I think.

Sosa is becoming worse and worse for the Cubs.

The fans will still come to the games even if Sosa isn't here.

Bad for the Dodgers. I heard about this and cringed. Sosa would be a problem in LA just like he is in Chicago. Green has one year left at about $15M. If Sosa is traded he has two years left at something like $17~$18M. Seems like a bad deal for the Dodgers unless they're throwing Prior in too. Now that I wouldn't mind seeing.

Yeah, from the Dodger's side of things, this doesn't make much sense at all unless other players are involved.

I agree that the Dodgers lose out on Age, and money in this one. however, Sosa is coming off a bad season and has a lot to prove about his offensive ability. Maybe a change of teams will bring back the 66HR Sosa? I cant help but think it will.

But who knew if the Cubs would throw in some money to smooth out the difference in money? Then it got a chance to be an even deal.

"I'm tired of being blamed by Dusty Baker for all the failures of this club," Sosa told the Chicago Sun-Times in early October.

Your supposed to be a leader bud. You get paid 16 million you better have some sort of leadership abilities which obviously sosa doesn't.

both players have the right to block the trade. there are too many things that will block the way with contract issues, buyouts, and no-trade clauses. No way this one happens.

When was a player ever paid to be a leader? Managers are the ones that supposed to lead. If a manager couldn't handle the players, he'd be useless.

Sosa is not a leader and he's not paid to be one. He's paid to hit homers. Period. Green on the other hand, is left-handed power and that's always a good thing. He can play two positions, and not too badly at that. He's supposed to be a mild-mannered guy who tries hard to do his job. OK, he's a streaky hitter, but so is Sosa.

The Dodgers are right to say no. If you're going for Beltre, you better have some power in the lineup to protect him and left-handed is better than right-handed in the West where there aren't many lefty starters (except in LA).

It would have to be enough to cover Sosa's 2006 salary.

Not going to happen.

So does that mean his managers got paid less? I think you are just trying too hard to cover the fact that Dusty Baker mismanaged Sammy Sosa.

He's a huge leader at away games he's not pitching.

Yeah, real bad in like no way the Dodgers ever do it. I assumed that Green had more years left.

I'm still hoping that most of Derek Jeter's 18 million is based on this assumption that his leadership skills led the Yankees to four championships in five years.

While that doesn't necessarily make me comfortable, it would be easier to swallow living in New York (with the crazy things these people believe) than someone saying it was because of his skills.

I agree, though keep in mind all this is coming from Sosa' agent. I would not be surprised if something is brewing beyond closed doors.
