FBCB Dynasty (Hope you don't mind)

I spent the last couple of days simming 60 seasons of history to start a league up. I was planning on picking the worst team in the 60 years of history. And I found it.

it's the....

VMI CADETS!!!!

Yeah! Over 60 seasons of basketball, you! VMI have sucked the worst! Other teams have attempted to lose like you have in the past. But only you! VMI have really put the suck onto turbo speed.

(actually, the worst team was Lipscomb, but they are an independent team, and I didn't want to mess with that. At least give me a conference.)

If anyone would like a team for me to give a quick recap of their history, let me know!

NOTE: Some of the conference's might seem a little screwy, it's becuase I turned conference movement on for about 20 seasons, so I could let the better teams get mixed in with each other.

et's look at the 2000-2001 Keydets.

Point Guards:

Wade McCurry SO 5'11
10.1 MIN 4.7 PPG 0.8 APG

McCurry, a walk on two years ago, redshirted his first season, and played his redshirt freshman season providing some depth at guard. The main thing McCurry brings to the table is the ability to knock down the open three. (he was a solid .383 last year from beyond the arc). At 5'11 he's too short to play the 2. But his point guard skills (handling/passing) are severly lacking, so he'll strictly be a shooter of the bench.

Stephen Robles JR 6'1
Played at JUCO last season

A JUCO point guard that didn't exactly score too much in the JUCO ranks either. He's the best defensive point guard we've got. He's got a good 3-point shot, and is an all-around good shooter. But he has trouble getting open without some screens. He should fight for some minutes this year, and possibly get the starting nod next season

Augustine Tsosie 6'0 SR
1999-28.6 MPG 9.2 PPG 2.7 APG
1998-27.1 MPG 7.7 PPG 2.1 APG
1997-25.9 MPG 7.5 PPG 1.4 APG

STARTER!

A three year starter. Has very poor vision for a point guard. But is starting to become a solid offensive threat. He doesn't shoot the three very often, but he's very adept at it (40% last season) He's a good rebounding guard (3.5 RBG for career) Not too good at the defensive end, but has quick hands and grabs about 2 steals a game.

Shooting Guards:

John Naquin 6'6 SO
1999-22.6 MPG 8.0 PPG 4.5 RBG

Came off of the bench for every game last season, but provided a very good spark. Hit a very solid 49% of three point shots. He improved on defense a lot over the summer, and is one of our best perimeter defenders. He has the ability to pull down 7 or 8 rebounds a game as well. If he could improve on his slashing to the basket, he could contend for league honors by his senior year.

Glenn Harris 6'3 JR
1999- 31 G 10 ST 19.5 MPG 6.4 PPG
1998-12.8 MPG 4.3 PPG

STARTER!

His freshman season, it looked like he would be turn into a zone buster. Adding yet another guy that could drain the three. (He shot 43 %) His sophomore season however, his percentage dropped 15 %. That could, however be attributed to the pressure of more playing time. A good defender. The best defender on the team, which gives him the starting nod. But Naquin could step in if Harris doesn't step up his offense.

Rudolph Starkey 6'8 JR
Did not play last season

Something's up with this guy. He was recruited all the way back in 1996, but has no ranking star or number. But he has a scholarship. Whateva. This guy really sucks, and will surely only come in for trash time.

Small Forwards

Odis Carter 6'8 SO
Did not play last season

Very athletic, and can throw down a solid dunk every once in a while. But doesn't have the defensive skills to get the steals and get out to the open floor. A horrid shooter, and suprisingly bad rebounder given his size. Has the ability to at least be worth 10 mintues a game by his senior year.

Brian Dickman 6'8 SO
4 MPG 0.6 PPG

Only played in 7 games last year. Needs to work on his endurance, as of right now can't stay out there very long. His superb at slipping inside and grabbing offensive rebounds. Besides that however, he can't do too much.

Don Medina 6'7 SR
31 Starts 28.1 MPG 15.3 PPG

STARTER!

A JUCO forward that shouldered the scoring load last year. Solid shooting percentages last year (45% from the field 37% from 3 and 80% from the line) A decent perimeter defender, but if he's forced to guard someone inside, he's going to get dominated. In games where he plays against a back down SF, I'll probably slide him down to the two-guard, so he can play out on the floor some more.

Power Forwards:

Jonathon Lowrey 6'10 FR
Freshman

Already a rebounding machine. Doesn't have much of an offensive game right now, but will get some minutes each game, since he can jump in and snag down some rebounds. Good at swatting shots, but besides that his defense is kind of raw. Can step out and nail the three if he needs too.

Jeffrey Stewart 6'10 JR
JUCO last season

A decent scoring forward. Also a VERY good defensive rebounder, but is normally not close enough to the basket on offensive sets to grab offensive rebounds. Has quick hands that should give him a steal or so a game. By next year, he could average double digits in points.

Jamal Richardson 6'7 SR
1999-31 Starts 7.4 PPG 6.7 RBG
1998-16.7 MPG 4.7 PPG 3.4 RBG
1997- 10.4 MPG 2.9 PPG 2.5 RBG

STARTER!

A shot blocking machine, averaged 2.5 a game last season. Still not much of a scorer, but is decent back to the basket, and can spot up and nail the three (who can't on this team?) His rebounding numbers should improve this season, and could possibly get close to averaging a double-double. Which would be nice.

Centers:

Oscar Coston 6'10 FR
Freshman

Will probably redshirt this season. But has the potential to be a defensive beast. Never looks to be much on the scoring side of the game. But could be a rebounding god by the time he leaves.

Dion Mitchell 6'11 SR
1999-21.8 MPG 5.0 PPG 5.0 RBG
1998-20.5 MPG 6.4 PPG 5.7 RBG
1997-11.4 MPG 3.3 PPG 3.3 RBG

First off, the only player that I've seen average the same points as rebounds for two seasons. As been the 6th man the last two seasons. ALMOST becoming a starter. Actually started 4 games back in 1998. Has a good back to the basket game, and if we need a score, he has as good as chance as any. Is an average rebounder, but besides that...MEH.

Charley Tindall 6'10 SR
1999-31 starts 28.2 MPG 7.4 PPG 7.1 RBG
1998-25 starts 23.7 MPG 8.2 PPG 5.1 RBG
1997- 30 starts 23.9 MPG 6.2 PPG 5.1 RBG

STARTER!

Has everything set up so he could possibly have a very good senior season. Improved quite a bit on his offensive game over the summer. He's also improved a lot on rebounding. Actually was a pretty good recruit out of high school. A two star and ranked 436. Hopefully he can have a breakthrough year.

Starting Lineup:

PG: Augustine Tsosie SR
SG: Glenn Harris JR
SF: Don Medina SR
PF: Jamal Richardson SR
C: Charley Tindall SR

We play our first game against the Howard Bison. They're coming off of a NCAA tournament appearence after winning their conference tournament last season, which was their first postseason play since 1974. The guy I need to watch out for is Shooting Guard Levi Halliday. Who never met a three point shot he didn't like. He averaged 11 points last year, and will probably be their #1 option this year.

Howard Bison (0-0) @ VMI Keydets (0-0)

Keydets corral Bison 66-58
Keydet guard Glenn Harris, looks to get inside for the basket
New VMI head coach BadluckinOOTP started his coaching career with a bang. Much of the gunpowder of the bang was supplied by last year's leading scorer Don Medina, who tossed in 22 points. 12 of them coming off of three pointers. Jamal Richardson helped out the effort by showing an offensive spark that he didn't show the last three years, working for 16 points, and pulling down 13 rebounds, and blocking 6 shots.

Center Charley Tindall snatched 13 rebounds as well. Senior capitan and point guard Augustine Tsosie had 8 points and 4 assists. The one qualm head coach BadluckinOOTP had with the first game of the season was the 20-36 shooting from the free throw line that the Keydets had. "But that will come in time." BadluckinOOTP said.

Justin Burgess SG 21 2-7 1-2 0 6 2 2 6
Thoughts: We did a solid job on Halladay, but he's a streaky player, and next game he might go off for 30 points. James Isley their SF, made our guy Medina look horrible. Unless Medina scores 20 a night, we might have to move him down to the two-guard.

There's the link to the games website. The game is basically unsupported now, but it is still a great, great game. It's my 2nd favorite sim 2nd to OOTP of course.

Good to see, Badluck. I've actually been contemplating doing a thread on my all-fictional team league in Madden '06. Made up 32 custom teams, unis, etc. Am just starting the second season now. It's been a blast...most fun I've ever had with a football game.

VMI Keydets (1-0) @ Hampton Pirates (1-1)

Hampton has been the top dog in their conference over the past 10 years. Winning 10 or more conference games in ten of the last eleven seasons. They have an impressive Freshman point guard Colby Winchell, who stands at 6'5. They also have a good scoring SF, who could cause problems with Don "cottage cheese" Medina guarding him.

I decide to go to strictly 2-3 zone in this game.

Pirated!
Hampton beats VMI by 27
Hampton point guard Colby Winchell, brings the ball up court

Hampton spread the scoring around nicely in the 81-54 beating of the Keydets. Emmanuel Barrick, Mervin Baran, Seth Townsend, and Scott Gray, all got into double figures. While the only Keydet that managed too was star forward Don Medina who had 24.

Colby Winchell PG 17 2-6 2-4 0 6 1 4 7
Thoughts: I actually thought we'd be decent. Or decent enough not to beat by 27 against Hampton.

VMI Keydets (1-1) @ Charleston Southern Buccaneers (0-0)

They are a school just like us, neither of us have ever made postseason play in history. The only guy that is really worrying me on the Buccaneers is their Sophomore giant at the PF position, Dan Hickok, not only does he have a silly last name, he's a 7'0 behemoth. Hopefully Tindall can stay out of foul trouble and slow him down, Hickok only scored 11 points a game last year, but surely he's improved.

RECAP:

We pulled out a win against them, 67-65. We were lucky, since Hickok there Giant, only managed 17 minutes, and fouled out of the game. In those 17 minutes however, he had 10 points and 5 rebounds.

Charley Tindall, our center, made good use of the time Hickok was out of the game, scoring 19 points and grabbing 8 rebounds. Jamaal Richardson was one rebound shy of another double-double with 10 points and 9 rebounds.

Former JUCO guard Stephen Robles had his best game of the year, with 10 points in only 13 minutes.

Don Medina sucked.

VMI Keydets (2-1) at Central Florida Knights (2-1)

We're in a lot of trouble for this game, I believe. The Knights have two explosive guards. Micheal Smith running the point, averaging 19 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists a game. Playing the two next to him is Andrew Puentes (17.5 ppg) who is a three point shooting machine, he's 6 of 10 for the season so far this year.

The frontcourt for the Knights isn't much, but they do have a very good center in John Hayner who is averaging 9.3 points and 9.0 rebounds a game.

KEYS TO THE GAME:

1. Glenn Harris, my best defender has to stick Puentes, and not let him get his average. Micheal Smith will probably have a good game, but you can't let Puentes add onto it.

2. Keep their center, Hayner, off of the glass. We have to rebound well, we can't let their guards get more than once chance to run their offense.

3. Our front court, Richardson and Tindall, have to have good games, or we can't win.

4. Medina has to take over, and someone has to be a 2nd option so they can't just key in on Medina.

TO THE GAME!

Well, we lost 92-74. I looked back at my keys of the game, and we accomplished none of them.

1. Glenn Harris, my best defender has to stick Puentes, and not let him get his average. Micheal Smith will probably have a good game, but you can't let Puentes add onto it.

Let's see...Andrew Puentes, their lighting quick 2-guard poured in 32 on me. And Michael Smith did have a good game 24 points, 7 assists.

2. Keep their center, Hayner, off of the glass. We have to rebound well, we can't let their guards get more than once chance to run their offense.

We sort of kept Hayner off of the glass, he only had 7 rebounds. But 3 of them were offensive, and he had 16 points.

3. Our front court, Richardson and Tindall, have to have good games, or we can't win.

Our Front court however, combined for 16 points. Richardson did snatch 10 rebounds though.

4. Medina has to take over, and someone has to be a 2nd option so they can't just key in on Medina.

Medina didn't take over (12 points) and nobody stepped up and showed any offensive firepower.

BUT...

Central Florida is a very good team. They were an NCAA tourney team last year and brought almost everyone back, including that splendid backcourt of theirs. So I wasn't expecting to win, and at least we didn't lose by 20.

DECEMBER 1st, time for some stats.

MEANS STARTER

POINT GUARDS:

Wade McCurry
7.5 MPG 4.5 PPG

Is good for a spark off of the bench, but his defense is horrible.

Stephen Robles
14.3 MPG 7.0 PPG 0.8 APG

Scoring more than I thought he would, but his passing is leaving a lot to be desired.

Augustine Tsosie
6.8 PPG 3.5 RBG 3.8APG

Not scoring as much as I had hoped, and his turning the ball over like crazy (5.3 per game)

SHOOTING GUARDS:

John Naquin
13.0 MPG 3.5PPG 2.8RBG

Has been a major dissapointment. I might try to get him some more playing time, to get him started.

Glenn Harris

4.8PPG 2.5RBG

He's supposed to be one of my best 3 point shooter, but he has been very lackluster there (15%) Was doing good on the defensive side of the ball until he got torched against Central Florida

SMALL FORWARDS

Don Medina
15.8PPG 3.0RBG

Started out on fire, but has cooled off against better teams. Is going to have to step up once conference starts.

POWER FORWARDS

Jonathon Lowrey
1.0 MPG

He's awesome

Jeffrey Stewart
7.5 MPG 0.5 PPG 1.5 RBG

Not much, he doesn't do anything REAL stupid out there.

Jamal Richardson
9.8PPG 9.3RBG 4.0BPG

Probably the best player on the team. The 13 fans that show up to our games scream pretty loud when he blocks a shot.

CENTERS

Dion Mitchell
17.8MPG 3.0PPG 4.5RBG

He's just kind of....there.

Charley Tindall
9.8PPG 6.5RBG

If he could average 15 in the post, this team would be a lot better.

VMI Keydets (2-2) @ Cambell Camels (3-1)

We take on bumbling Cambell today. They had a rough 7-21 season last year. They are off to a good start though. They have a player very similar to our own Dan Medina in their Small Forward Junior Daniel Crawford. He's averaging 18.5 points a game, and has drained 12 of 24 three point shots this year. He's not much of a rebounder (5.3 per game) despite his size (6'9). He's also a horrible defender, also much like Medina.

KEY(DETS) to the game:

1.Their Shooting Guard Jake Shoemaker is a fantastic shooter, but he has to rely on others passes to do it, so I'm planning on going back to man-to-man, to try to take away his shooting prowess.

2.They have an above average point guard, Jonathon Sayers, who is averaging 10 points and 4 and half assists a game. We can't let him get on a roll, or we're in trouble.

3.Their inside game is virtually non-existent. So I'll be looking to pound the ball inside to Richarson to exploit their Power Forwards horrible post defense. Their center, however should be able to handle Tindall pretty easily.

The game's coming up soon!

We bring down Cambell 76-72. Let's take a look at our keys.

1.Their Shooting Guard Jake Shoemaker is a fantastic shooter, but he has to rely on others passes to do it, so I'm planning on going back to man-to-man, to try to take away his shooting prowess.

I split the time evenly between 2-3 zone, and man. I wish I could have done 100% man, to limit Shoemaker, but the only good defender I had was the one guarding him. But we/he did pretty well on him, Shoemaker only had 10 points on 4-14 shooting.

Key: Accomplished

2.They have an above average point guard, Jonathon Sayers, who is averaging 10 points and 4 and half assists a game. We can't let him get on a roll, or we're in trouble.

Sayers had about his norm, he had 10 points and 2 assists. So we kept him in check.

Key: Accomplished

3.Their inside game is virtually non-existent. So I'll be looking to pound the ball inside to Richarson to exploit their Power Forwards horrible post defense. Their center, however should be able to handle Tindall pretty easily.

Richardson dominated with 19 points and 8 rebounds. While Tindall only scored 5 points, he grabbed a team high 11 rebounds. We destroyed their weak frontcourt, and that played a big part in the win.

KEY: Accomplished

The Camel's small forward Daniel Crawford out played our Don Medina, outscoring him 22-9. Medina is one horrible defender.

Code:
Player Pos Min Fgm-a Ftm-a Off Reb Ast PF Pts
Charley Tindall C 31 2-7 1-2 1 11 2 1 5

Don Medina SF 28 3-14 2-2 0 3 4 0 9
Glenn Harris SG 28 3-8 2-2 0 1 1 3 10
Augustine Tsosie PG 26 5-10 2-2 4 6 4 4 14
Dion Mitchell C 12 2-5 1-2 0 2 0 2 5
