The Official Talk Sports thread

I think all our discussion about sports are too spread out and too many threads are started on the topic of sports.

Let's just post all of them in the same thread so nothing would be missed out!!!

I'll start with a question:

Can the Cardinals ride on the dominance of So Taguchi, Tony Womack, and Roger Cedeno and come back in the series? As perennial statheads punchbags, they must be pumped to revenge on this sabermetrics-savvy Red Sox team!!!!

The only thing the Cardinals can rely on is the curse. It is very likely that the Sox will come very close to winning the series, probably on more than one occasion, only to have it all slip away. Although I'd love to see Boston win the series, it is their fate to lose. Most likely in game seven, in extra innings.

Now, my question. Can statistics really tell us anything? Is past performance a good indicator of future success/failure?

Not alot of sports interest in this forum.

As for Chappy's question, I'm going to be quick about it, but it does deserve a thorough breakdown. I like to think that stats are very important in evaluating talent. However, with that being said, there is more to a makeup of a player. You can't use stats when the player has none.

Last I heard, 37% of people who were polled said no.
