Ok first of all go to www.boys-of-summer.com. There you will find updated versions of the database. You will get errors if you just use the original. Once you get the update(s) you'll need to start a new league and select historic. Pick your year and you'll be all set. If you wish to continue on with the historic simulation make sure you select career mode from the league setup menu. After you complete your first season it'll ask you if you would like to import the real rookies and then you'll proceed to the next season. If you come to an expansion year be sure to check out the ootp4 manual as it has a link to an expansion thread that explains how to properly expand your historic league. Hope this helps

Just in case you are not sure what to do with the files from the database and then www.boys-of-summer.com I thought I'd try to clarify
Put the database files into a folder named stats, for example, and then place either of the updated files from boys of summer in the stats folder, overwriting where necessary. When you go to creat your historic league it will ask you the location of the database. Just type in C:\stats, or whatever you named the folder, and you'll be all set
