Post Attendance Feature

My team, the Spokane Indians of the Pacific States Baseball League (http:/psbl.net), is averaging 36,882 per game attendence this season. So I expected a huge crowd for the final home series against arch rival Portland. A weekend series. We are in second trailing Portland by four games. The same team we challenged for the pennant last year only to fall two games short. Portland is pitching it's ace, Ray, who was voted pitcher of the month in August and pitcher of the week the first week in September. We ordered extra dogs and extra beer for the concessions. Friday night. A pennant race. And we drew 1,000 less than our season average. But we won the game 9-3, closing to within three games of Portland. So Saturday will be a big crowd. Right? Not! Same 35,000+. We win again, 9-3.
Now the lead is cut to two. The players and the owner are really excited but what about the fans. Will they show up Sunday to start the next sim? We'll see.
I wonder if the attendence feature needs some tweeking in OOTP4. Any comments.

I think the only external factor that affects attendance (other than fan loyalty, ticket price, and stadium capacity) is whether it's the first day of the season or a playoff game. Games during the season are only affected by a random factor.

That's unfortunate. Sometimes a teams financial fortunes (poor word choice) hinge on luck. You happened to host Mark McGwire as he pursues 70.
It is a pennant race. Or the weather sucks. Perhaps This could be built into the game.

I thought that team performance was a factor.... I think it should be if it isn't... maybe games back should be a factor... if your team is in the lead games back would be 00 so that you'd get full benefit... if your team is 22 games back (even if its in second place) how excited could your fans get, why would they want to come? But this way heated playoff races would result in higher attendence the way they do in real life.

Any thoughts on this idea?

Good thread, yes attendance should be affected by the situation - pennent races etc.

btw - did the hot dogs in question end up at the local 7-11, cause they usually look like they've been on the cooker for weeks...

I agree with this thread, too. I especially like the idea of drawing more people to games when someone is going for a record etc...but, as mentioned earlier, I am sure it is all based on a random number.

Oh, I almost forgot. I'll take 2 hot dogs, hold the relish, Fridley. My wifee would kill me if I forgot those. Whew! Thanks!

Agreed that this should be a part of the game. Rivalries IRL draw crowds.

Yeah, here in Chicago the largest crowds of the regular season are during the interleague Cubs-Sox games. Then again, would playoff broadcast revenue suffer from stuff like that? For instance the Yankees-Mets World Series of 2000 had the lowest TV ratings of any WS previously.

But really I agree with everything that's been said.
