Carlos Beltran's Postseason Performance

So far, has Carlos Beltran's offensive performance this postseason been one of the best you have ever seen? I sure as hell think so.

I think you could make a pretty compelling case for Barry Bonds in 2002, as well.

Beltran's already matched his HR total in 1/2 as many games. Plus, he's not juicing up on the travel days of the series.

He's been so good, the Cards should think about giving him the Barry Bonds treatment.

If Tavares felt like throwing at someone, it should have been Beltran, not Bagwell.

(Not that he should be throwing at anyone, but talk about misplaced frustration...)

We should also look at Hideki Matsui this postseason: .500 - 3HR - 13RBI - 3BB - 1.465 in only 7 games.

I've been trying to block him out of my memory.

As a Cardinals fan watching this series, now I know how fans of other teams feel when watching their team play the Cards... my god the Astros line-up is killer, with Beltran being the lead assassin.

And no, Bonds' 2002 performance doesn't even come close to matching what Beltran has already done.

Still doesn't match up to Don Larsen:

H/9 = 0
HR/9 = 0
BB/9 = 0
K/9 = 7

He asked about the best we've ever seen, and I don't know about you, but I'm not quite that old.

I disagree. Beltran obviously is hitting HRs at a better pace, but Bonds' overall performance (1.559 OPS) was almost as good, and he managed to sustain it over twice as many games as Beltran has. If we're looking at short postseason performances, neither of them came close to Babe Ruth in 1928: 3 HR, 3 2B, a .625 avg., and a staggering 2.022 OPS. He played half as many games in that postseason as Beltran has this postseason, though, just like Beltran's played half as many games this postseason as Bonds did in the 2002 postseason.

dola

If we're talking about pitching as well, what about Curt Schilling in 2001? 4-0, 1.12 ERA, 56 Ks in 48.1 IP is pretty good, if you ask me.

But the thing is, we're not compensating for less games. Beltran has matched what Bonds did in half as many games, albeit only 10 less at bats.
