Pedro a Yankee?

http://www.nypost.com/sports/yankees/31464.htm

Considering it's the Post, hopefully they are wrong. However, signing Pedro would make perfect sense to Georgie. A big name, who's best years are behind him, who he gets to "steal" from the Red Sox. Sounds like a match made in Georgieville.

I REALLY don't want this to happen. I'd rather them go after Pavano/Radke/Milton rather then this schmuck. I know they need pitching, but didn't they learn their lesson from Brown? Personality means a lot, and they've lost so much of it over the past 4-5 years. Instead of being a team, they are a collection of individual egos. They'll never win like that.

I don't know, I just don't see the Yankees going for him seriously. Maybe I'm wrong, but I really don't think he'll be with either team next year.

I expect that the Mets will sign him for like three years and he will get injured early on and never pitch - at least not well - again. That would be a typical Met kind of thing to do.

Here's a Newsday article on the same subject:

Starting today, Theo has 10 days (I think?) of exclusive rights to negotiate with Pedro. If he is going to stay, I think this will be the time they will sign him.

Quote:
Three years at $10 to $12 million per isn't out of the question considering the free agent pitching market is very thin. And who knows where it goes if the Red Sox and Yankees decide they have to have Martinez.
This is laughable. If Petey signs for this much it will be with the Sox in the next 10 days. IMO he wont get signed for less than $13M... Besides, it's not the money that's the issue here. Pedro wants a 4th year. That's the sticking point with the Sox right now.

On ESPN's Daily quickie it says that was a Yankee fan. I don't know how reliable that is, but it makes sense.

Well Luis .. I just hope that either the Sox re-sign him during that time, or that the Yankees are smart enough to pass on him. With Georgie at the helm, I can never count on the latter.

Actually, since Georgie is the devil...

Personally, I would not worry based on these articles. Based on the sources (Post and I really don't know much about Newsday) and the lack of knowledge about the situation displayed in the Post's article... they're just drumming up an obvious story that will pique the intrest of readers. Because, let's face it, there is probably no indifference among Yankee fans about getting Petey. Whether you're for or against it, it will interest 99% of them.

I think george is just trying to mess with redsox nation with the talks of going after pedro. I cant see anyone in the locker room accepting him as a teammate. Hopefully its just a way to get the sox sweating and overpay for him.

If he hits free agency 10 days from now, then yes... I will expect that George will definitely at least feign interest in Pedro in an attempt to drive up the price.

Considering, the "relationship" of Martinez and Posada....I doubt it'd happen.

^^^^^^

Big deal.

Not to mention Pedro calling out Sheff a week ago. I have a hard time believing that Pedro would ever want to pitch in NY. Yankees or Mets. I think the biggest chance is that he lands in Anaheim.

I totally agree. Bill Stoneman, the Angels GM, has already said they are interested in Pedro and that pitching is a top priority of theirs this offseason. I love seeing the Angels compete with the Big Boys. They did it with Vlad last season and Iwouldn't be surprised to see them do it with Pedro this year.

Well, really Anaheim is one of the big boys. Their market size is pretty big, certainly larger than most. It's just that they only recently seem to have realized that.

Chalk it up to Disney complaining about losses when they make billions of dollars a year.

The best thing that happened to Anaheim was Art Moreno.

Art Moreno was a drug buddy of mine back in the day

Arte Moreno is the owner of the Angels

Pedro still had a good year, why wouldn't Boston do everything to get him back. But if they don't get him back they better have a good indication Pavano is coming to the Boston.

HA! I've never hidden my feelings for Pedro/Manny/Bonds. All of them are equal on my schmuckometer.
