Don't worry, one of his body parts will make the decision.

Why exactly would he retire? I could understand that reasoning if one specific injury was what was hampering him but all 4 times has been a different injury, atleast I believe the hammy and knee problem were different legs. Although I won't be suprised when he gets traded in the off-season.

This season I see Junior as being healthier than ever. He is actually conditioned during the off season for only the second time in his career. I look forward to having the best playing in baseball back on the team.
- Bob Boone, sometime in March, 2004. That's assuming, of course, that Boone keeps his job (probably will - with the ever popular "Griffey was hurt" excuse). |

Griffey has way too much to prove to retire. I hope that he can come back healthy. They need to move him to a corner OF spot and tell him to take it a little easier out there now.

They should let Griffey bat and have a replacement runner who can start when he hits the ball. Oh, and he'd have to play in the AL so that he can DH.
Then maybe, just maybe, he won't get hurt.

Grif to retire...
best thing for him and the team. Hard to believe this guy was once a stellar all star.

I really didn't think he'd fall this early. I thought he really had a shot to break the home run record at one point. Oh well.

Grif seems like a good guy...
dedicated family man, and an outstanding professional. The problem Ct is that he's got the Michael Jorday/George Foreman syndrome. Just doesn't know when to quit. Maybe after being out half to 2/3rds of next season the Reds will offer him a coaching position.

Griffey can obviously still play the game at a high level. He's not that old. I don't see how its best for him to retire. Maybe for the Reds to get rid of his contract....but not for himself.

maybe your right....
Draven I really don't know. If I had 4 seasons of injuries I certainly would have doubts about my ability to keep performing at a major league level. Altough I do think 1 more major injury will really harm his ability to make money and stay in the bigs in the future.

Honestly I think the best thing for him would be the get the hell out of the city of Cincinnati. The fans want to blame someone for the terrible play in the last couple of years and he's been the scapegoat for it. They always bring up how prior to his arrival they were contending for the division/wildcard and after he arrived they have been one of worse teams in the NL. Of course they forget there was a bigger change after 2000 and that was changing managers from Jack McKeon to Bob "Call to the bullpen in the 3rd inning" Boone. There is no telling what the team could of done in 2000 had the ownership not given up on the team on Memorial Day. McKeon worked wonders with the ragtag bunch of players that the owners threw at him, and Boone couldn't manage his way out of a wet paper bag.

As a Reds fan the other 80% of the reds fans piss me off. Especially when they booed him when he dislocated his shoulder, by making a play to prevent more runs. I would like to see him leave Cincy so he can get the hell away from us.

If all else stays the same...
and Griffey stays in Cincinnati Guillen will have to leave because ownership will not pay his contract. The end result of this could be a outfield next season with a injured Griffey and no talented backup to play for him. Somebody needs to do something to correct this situation in Cincy.

Agreed
A less talented Guillen that plays 100 games would help the Reds significantly
