Favorite Player by Decade 1901-1910
All these favorite player by team threads got me thinking about some old-timers. Choose your favorite player by decade.

Every time I ever do a league with Wahoo Sam in it, he rakes the bejeezus out of the ball.

When I was young, before I knew a whole lot about early baseball (pre-1950), Wagner was the name of a friend I had and for some reason I heard Honus Wagner once and I called him that.

Only one guy on this list has a major award named after him.

Ack. Picked other when I meant to vote for Honus Wagner, clearly the best player of the decade.

Only one ballplayer period has a major award named for him (unless you think the Lou Brock Award is a major award). Anyway, what's your point?

To me, major awards are the MVP Award and the Cy Young Award, hence my comment.

Meh. I don't do historical leagues, and it's really hard to get attached to just numbers. I'll pass.

I knew Puckett got it, didn't know Winfield did. I remember watching the game where they announced Puckett. Everyone in the upper deck had a piece of cardboard that spelt it out. You could tell before they announced it who it would be.

I voted other cause my favorite player from this era is Nap Lajoie. Not sure why, but I've always liked Nap.

Other: Cap Anson. Although he only played till 1897, that's close enough, and I don't see a poll for pre-1900

Arguably the best all around SS in the history of the game. Wagner had few, if any, peers in the game. He could run, hit, field; a true 5-tool player to use today's terminology. The Flying Dutchman could play in any era.
