Disturbing ttrend in the NBA

It's becoming a very disturbing trend in the NBA nowadays with stars demanding trades when they are on a losing team. First Tracy McGrady demands to be and is traded. Then Shaq demands a trade now word is out that Vince Carter has demanded to be traded as well. Does this kind of crap fly in any other sport? Sure guys can ask but it doesn't seem that marquee, or 'franchise' players if you will, do very often. If they do they seldom get t pick their destination like they do in the NBA. I feel sorry for the fans of these teams that are watching their favorite players walk away and burn the place down on their way out.

The way I look at it if you sign the contract you should honor it instead of deciding part way through that you've changed your mind. If it's that big of an issue maybe players should start signing shorter contracts.

Your thoughts?

He will be if he stays. His reason for demanding a trade is seemingly like any of the others, he's 'not happy with the direction of the franchise.'

Any team with Shaq on it will not be a losing team. If he stays with LA they will not be a losing team at all. They still have Payton there, and possibly Malone coming back, you also never know where Bryant will end up.

True, but I know it won't be with Shaq. I can't imagine that happening. Although it would make for good theatre if it did.

actually I thought the most disturbing trend in the NBA is that it's a shadow of the game it used to be. Nobody shoots the ball with skill anymore...I'm sick and tired of people calling players with a 40% shooting percentage great. Free throw shooting is a a joke...I know many people still like the NBA but the game lost me a decade ago and I don't think I'll ever go back.

I was just thinking that I wanted to make a thread about this, but then I saw that someone already did. And then I realized that that someone didn't know that you already made a thread about this. Cool, huh?

Anyway, I agree.

As for the comments about the game of basketball. I think it's self explanatory when it seemed like every rookie's major weakness during the NBA Draft this year was a mid-range jumper. ouch.

It happens from time to time in other sports but not with the frequency of the NBA.

Well, since NBA allowed unhappy teams to move around, why not the players?

Sure old school guys could shoot the ball better but do you think the legends of the 70's or the 80's could play with just a regular team from today?

I love it when you write out some long thought out post with lots of good points and then twins15 replies with a sarcastic comment about 1 miniscule point you are slightly off on. Its even better when he is the first person to respond. Makes you feel good about your efforts.

You have 33 posts, Twins has over 3000. You've lost this argument.

Haha.

Ok Newbie Slayer. Click on my first screen name "Portlander" in my sig and look at my join date. Now look at twins15's join date.

If this argument keeps up I'll have too many posts and might have to start a new screen name so lets wrap this up.

Maybe a new disturbing trend in the n.b.a but seems like it happens all the time inother sports. Especially the n.f.l where said N.F.L star feels he's not getting enough $ or feels unloved or whatever the case might be decides he's gonna sit out traing camp for a little while .M.l.B. ya have the great trend of ripping the manager or the team owner or better yet the fans of said players team city . Just seems like the N.B.A stars are catching on finally.

Hey, if a player is good enough and powerful enough in the sport to be able to demand a trade, more power to him. He has every right to want to win, especially if his talent is being wasted.

The way i see it, you want to sit out then you don't get paid. Simple as that. Demand a trade? If I'm the owner/GM and I don't like what I'm getting in return.... you're staying. and if you refuse to play, you don't get paid. End of story.
Players know they have the power. Teams aren't going to take a hard stance and when they do, they know that some arbitrator is going to back them up. I just think it's ironic that athletes whine and cry to get extensions before their deals are up, then one year in, they start crying about not wanting to play for that team anymore. You want to leave? Play out your contract then sign somewhere else.
