Rookie Import Questions

I did a search and did not find any clear cut answers to my questions...it actually generated more.

What exactly is going on when you are prompted to import rookies during the offseason?

What rookies will be imported the ones from the current game year you are in?

Do you have to have a datebase on your computer to do the imports or will the importing be done off the Internet?

When these players are imported will they be rated based on their real rookie season and then just play out as the years go on with no assurance they will become a bum or star like they did in real life?

Will enough rookies be imported to still conduct a full 10 round draft?

TIA for your time,

Chuck

In a historical league, when you import the initial season it has to be from a database. The main database is the Lahman database, but many people use Ankit's modified versions of the Lahman database. Each year when you import rookies, it imports the rookies from that database. Depending on how you set your options and which database you use, the rookies will either be imported based on their rookie season or based on their entire careers.

Just search the board to find these databases for download.

A bunch of rookies enter the database ... Your question is unclear to me. If you mean fictional rookies, the game creates them. If you mean historical rookies, the game imports them from your Lahman's database.

In both cases, they will be rookies for the year to which you are advancing, not the year you just finished.

You need to provide a full, valid path to the database.

Yes. Edit -- waydaminit ... On second thought, I think the game calculates the ratings based on the incomings guy's whole career.

If there are not enough real rookies, I bleieve the game will create fictional crap-to-average players to fill. Someone correct me if that's not the case.

Or if anything else I said was wrong ...

I don't believe that's true, but I might be wrong.

The game doesn't create players if your drafts are thin beyond the "transparent" average players it uses to fill in lineups.

Use Ankit's Database...his databases are more accurate than Lahman as far as ratings are concerned. Lahman randomly assigns too many ratings. Even with Ankit's you will need to edit some things...like pitchers batting ratings, pitchers wild pitch and hit batter averages, arm strength, range, stealing ability, catcher passed ball average.

I use Ankit's Career Average Database for my Alltime Allstar League and it works well.

Once you import a player, there is no guarantee he will perform as in real life.
Most of the time they will, but not always.
