Pitchers Club 3-D

With apologies to the Mayor, I thought I'd do one of my own. This time, to show that you've got it, just name two or three members of the club instead of giving away what they have in common.

Tom Seaver is in the club, but not Bob Gibson or Steve Carlton.
Bruce Sutter and Rich Gossage are in, but not Dennis Eckersley or Dan Quisenberry.
Iron Man Joe McGinnity is in, but not Jack Chesbro or Big Ed Walsh.
Early Wynn is in, but not Bob Lemon or Mike Garcia.
David Wells is in, but not Andy Pettitte or Roger Clemens.

Knock yourselves out.....

Neither Don Larsen nor David Cone is in the club. Ralph Branca, on the other hand, is in the club.

Oh, wait, duh. For some reason, I was thinking each line was a new club.

Wow. They don't make 'em too bright out there in Pittsburgh, eh?

I'd like to say "not until I figure this out!" but it's probably something lame like "they all wore size 12 shoes". So, yeah, past my bedtime.

D'oh!

(By the way, I saw a blurb on the immortal Ken Jennings on Yahoo News this afternoon. Seems my vanquisher is over $500K on the old Jeopardy gravy train now.)

Okay.... try this clue.

Pedro Martinez is not in the club, but hopes to join it this year.
Frankie Rodriguez is in the club, but hopes to leave it at some point.

Well knowing the politics of "Lefty" (howzat for irony?) Steve Carlton, my guess this is the Liberal Weenie Club for pitchers.

Okay, try this clue. Neither Jim Bunning nor Whitey Ford is in the club, but for completely different reasons.

That's the one that's killing me. Why the hell would Pedro Martinez want to be like Frankie Rodriguez? Like, in any way?

Okay, try this clue.

On January 1, 1994, Greg Maddux was not in the club.
On January 1, 1996, Greg Maddux was in the club.
On January 1, 1998, Greg Maddux was not in the club, and he can never return to it.
