Customizable Playoffs

I am hoping to see Customizable Playoffs this year. For example, I would like the ability to have 2, 4, 8, or however many playoffs teams I would like. I currently play a 2 league/3 division (6 divisions in total) league and I would like a playoff system like the NFL. 6 playoff teams per league with a bye week.

I second, third, fourth and fifth the motion - a lot of us have been clamoring for expanded playoffs since OOTP3.

I was hoping to use the current MLB setup, only without a wildcard. That way the #1 seed could get a bye in the first round. Or have 2 wildcards with a 2/5 and 3/4 opening round matchup (with #1 still getting the bye). I dunno what would happen in the second round

So yeah, customizable would be sweet.

Id love customizable playoffs and Id also like a customizable tiebreaker playoff after what just happened in my dynasty thread.

A Playoff option like the College World Series would be interesting.

At the very least the playoff option should mimic those that have been used in baseball.

That means split seasons to generate two division winners to meet in a post-season series, the Shaughnessy playoff format that was used in the minors, and the other playoff systems used there.

The best would be, of course, full customization. The matchups could be determined by just dragging and dropping the playoff qualifiers on the playoff matchups screen.

I take it OOTP6 did not provide this customizable playoff option? So a 2-division set up results in no more and no less than 2 playoff teams??

The playoffs in OOTP6 are customizable. That is, I created a completely fictional league and devised the play-offs myself - boringly, a simple system based around semi-finals and a final as per most football major championships (sorry, soccer).

I can amend the playoff format as many times as I want.

Not sure if you can amend playoff formats if you're playing the standard leagues, though. And obviously, there are limits to the systems that you can employ.

So I could do 2 leagues, 3 divisions per league, and have 8 playoff teams PER league (1 total)? Or if I do 2 2-division leagues, I could have either just the 4 total division winners make the playoffs OR the 4 division winners plus the 4 next-best records for a total of 8?

That's great news. Odd that no one has discussed it much though.

I'd settle for playoffs in a 1-league/multi division setup. The game is in it's 6th generation for crying out loud.

No. If you have a 1-league 2-division setup, there are no playoffs. I guess you have two champs.

Wait, aren't you guys saying differnt things? edrooney said it was fully customizable. Chappy is saying it's not. And I seem to recall a 1 league, 2 division format still allowing for an LCS...

So which is it? I was getting my hopes up reading this post, but perhaps not now... I guess my upgrade to OOTP6 can wait a few weeks longer then...

But can someone clear it up? Is there more than 1 possibility with respect to # of playoff teams for each possible league structure?

I think what edrooney is talking about is manually scheduling games after the season and doing a manual playoff.

That may work in a 2-league setup, but I started a one-league, two-division league and when the season ended, there were no playoffs. And, the game wouldn't even let me manually schedule games to determine a champion.

It really renders one league/mutli division setups useless.

OK. Playoffs in OOTP6 are customizable, but not fully so. In my fictional solo league, under League Setup, I can click on Playoff Structure and choose between:

1. No playoffs - self explanatory

2. Round 1 and Round 2 - Winner of each division advances to playoffs

3. Round 1, Round 2, Round 3 - First 2 teams in each division qualify for playoffs.

Like I said, this works on my fictional league, which has two leagues of two divisions, each containing 5 teams. I assume that the options would be different for leagues of a different structure, but I don't know - I haven't tried it.

So, in short, yes, there is customisation, but it is limited, probably depending on the structure of your whole league.

Oh, and you can also edit the names of the playoff rounds e.g. instead of LCS, you could have 'Regional Championship' and instead of 'World Series' you could have 'Australasian Cup'. And you can edit the amount of games in each playoff series - either 3, 5, 7, or 9.

So I think it's quite nice.

One last Q- You say with 3 rounds the 1st 2 teams in each division would make the playoffs... but what if the 3rd place team in division 1 had a better record than the 2nd place team in division 2... who makes the playoffs?

Lastly, I assume that 3 rounds means 8 teams regardless of league structure set up? So 2 divisions = 2 winners + 2 next best records. 3 divisions = 3 winners + next best record. 4 divisions = 4 winners + 0 next best records.

Thanks for the clarification

For the first question, it's simply the top two teams in each division regardless of record.

To be honest with you, I don't know the answer to the second question. I'm pretty sure that you can have the 3 playoff rounds with 3 divisions, and that the game would deal with it intelligently by using 'next best record' for the non-division-winning qualifiers. I haven't tried this.

Bottom line is, then, that there is some customisation, which seems intelligent and is cool.

Update >> Just created a custom league with one league containing three divisions, each with four teams. Customisation has disappeared!! Two rounds are now set as playoffs - I have no idea who qualifies. You can change the names of the rounds.

I've just created a custom league with 2 leagues, each containing 3 divisions. The playoff choices are either 'No playoffs' or the standard 3 rounds as per MLB.

I guess you just have to create your league and find out what options for customising you're given.
