MLB audio
Now I'm confined to a 56k modem where I live, so I tried MLB audio this year to catch games from around the country, plus listen to the broadcasts of Phillies games I miss. Love it, it's great to hear the games.
So yesterday, I get this idea of turning on MLB audio with the Red Sox broadcasters as they are playing on ESPN, and to my dismay, discover that the MLB audio was lagging about 5 minutes behind the actual game, thus destroying my seemingly brilliant idea of watching the game while listening to the hometown announcers. So why the huge lag? Anyone know? |

Good question. I've found that as well.
Could be to cut out unwarranted/illegal advertising. Yeah, that's it! It's for the station identification that are always cut out of the broadcasts. Stream of consciousness right there! |

I don't know. Now that I've thought about it, it doesn't surprise me there is lag, since you have to have a computer convert the sound over to the streaming audio, but I am still surprised the lag was as big as it was.
I really thought it would be cool to listen to the Red Sox announcers call the game and watch it on the television, but my no luck. Doubleplus uncracking. |

I always watch football/soccer at home with the radio on for commentary, becuase radio commentators are generally far better than their television counterparts, especially the Scottish ones, where the radio coverage is outstanding, but the television is truly, truly terrible!

Ditto Nebraska football. I can't stand the 5th string ABC crew that always ends up announcing their games!

Let's face it, television announcers suck, unless they're ones who cut their teeth in the radio booth first.

I have a cable modem at home and on my wireless-router-connected laptop, I do experience some lag with MLB Audio, but I find it to be no more than about 15-20 sec. at worst. One thing that is kinda funky though is that the Gameday window is usually only about 5-10 sec. slower than real-time which means that if I have Gameday open to the game I'm listening to on MLB Audio, it's almost like I'm peering into the future...

Dola,
Hey Gassor, maybe this would be the ideal time to go out and get you one of them TiVo machines. That way, you could pause the Phillies game for five minutes and allow MLB Audio to catch up. Just don't open that Gameday window at the same time, I fear the universe might collapse in on itself...
