Phantom Injury?
Okay, I am cheating. This happened in OOTP5, but I figure more people frequent this forum so I thought I would post here. And if this is posted elsewhere and I missed it, I apologize to all.
One of the whiners in one of the online leagues I run found this. He has a player who is now injured and out for the season. However, it is not listed in the league injury report. It is not listed in the team injury report. It is not listed in the box score/game log of his last played game, or the games played after. My questions are: Has anyone ever noticed this? Is it a bug? Is it an undocumented feature? Did the injury really happen? The problem is, the player is this guy's only all-star and he is in a pennant race. If it's a 'bug', I should uninjure the player. If it's a real injury, I should tell him to stop whining. However, I don't know what it is without any supporting records and that is why I am reaching out to you, the community, to find out if anyone KNOWS what this is. (Please, no guesses, suppositions, theories, or anything like that. Just confirmed knowledge or a similar experience and your resolutions would be appreciated). Thank you. Maybe. |

I believe he was injured in a wild post-game encounter with Mary Kate and Ashley.
Actually, this was brought up with regards to older versions a few times. I believe the conclusion was that the injury was a valid one, but was not being properly recorded by the game for some reason due to a bug in the game. However I can no longer find a post from a dev to confirm that. |

There have been injuries like this that seem to pop up occasionally. I believe the only bug is that the injury isn't getting recorded correctly. The injury itself is legit, much like the bar fight injuries that occur between games. I think Markus has tried to track this down but has been unsuccessful if memory serves me.

It is an injury. Yes, I have seen it.
The way I came to this conclusion is any injury coding in the game HAS to exceute to injure the player. Where the "bug" is in fact that it somehow "skipped" the coding that was supposed to record it. This might (and most likely) is because of a glitch in the game coding maybe where two things were happening simultaneously and the "recording" code got skipped. The only other explanation is to try and picture why the game would run through the injury coding when it wasn't supposed to - and even if that happened, why didn't it get recorded ? I definately think the injury is valid - it just didn't get recorded (bug). Last edited by Henry; 05-14-2004 at 02:35 PM. |

Seen it twice in 2 different leagues, one using v5 and one using v6. Exactly the same circumstances. We just left the player injured, though that drove the owners of those teams crazy.

I've seen something similar (in V6), but different. I was playing out a game, and my pitcher was injured (out for season) at the same time as recording the final out of the inning.
I was not asked to take the player out, and he was able to complete a 4 hit shutout. -He pitches 6 more innings with a season long injury. No whining for him! After the game, his injury was in full effect and the injury was recorded in the game box score.

The irony of the situation here is that my beloved commish knows where my hockey loyalties lie, and your post may have no doubt given him a chuckle, but alas we are not the same person. This also has the effect of dispelling the rumor that there is in fact, only one NY Ranger fan left in existence. To the rest of you... damn your logical minds! My case has been tried in the court of the OOTP community and I have lost. Kangaroo court I say. If I miss the playoffs it is all on your heads! How will any of sleep! Hmm, very soundly I suppose.

If I were you, I'd not only leave him injured but make it a career ending injury. Then I'd start to randomly pick more players and giving them career ending injuries, but also edit the html file for injury reports to list the causes as "hangnail," "slipped in the shower," "fell off his SUV," "strained back while lifting suitcase," and - of course - "went on a religious pilgrimage"
