Head to head
I'm looking for some more official word; what's the latest status on the "major update" that will include this? It was initially gonna be a week or two after the initial release, so I haven't heard anything since that...

It is still coming, though the initial timetable was a bit too optimistic. My "guess" is that there is a patch that Markus is currently working on then the "update" should follow that though I don't really want to project a timeframe for it.

OK, well thanks for the info. There's not much use in yelling at this point, but I will simply state that based on the advertising and based on the information surrounding the release (i.e. in the one week I had to make my decision on whether to use my pre-order or cancel it), I got a very different impression, and that will certainly impact my decision to buy future products by this companty.
I recognize that this may not be Markus' fault or that of other people on this board, but when I make a purchase, I do look at the end product rather than at the motivation; I consider a purchase of software to be my giving money in return for the enjoyment I get out of the software, not my giving money in return for the programmer's hard work. Naturally the two are normally correlated, but please understand that I bought OOTP6 because of the head to head feature, and at this point I do feel defrauded to a certain extent. I'm trying to say this in an even tone and open a dialogue here rather than start a flamewar, and hopefully it will succeed. What I will say is that I run an online league with approximately 22 GMs that participate in no other OOTP leagues. We have to make the decision in around a month on whether to switch to OOTP6 for our next season, and at the pace of one season per year that decision will be rather long-lasting. Without a feature such as head to head, I cannot recommend OOTP6 to my league, nor would my recommendation be accepted if the rationale were simply "under the hood" changes [we already have things such as a Rule 5 draft, and while that's a nightmare for me as commissioner to implement, it's already in place]. It would therefore be incredibly helpful for me to find out within the next few weeks what the status is and at what point a version with head to head is likely to be released, so that I can try to stretch out our decisionmaking process. And in all honesty, I do feel that since you (collectively, but also you personally to a certain extent) did sell OOTP as a product that would include head to head play as a major feature, that I am not wrong in believing you owe it to myself and the other readers of the board to at least keep us informed as to the reasons why the game does not meet expectations and as to plans for the situation to be rectified. |
