No Talent/No Rating - Stat only League

With OOTP6 allowing the turning off (and I assume locking off) of ratings and talents - which requires owners to go off of past stats and the scouting report - I was curious if any leagues have or plan to incorporate this feature.

In other words are there any no rating, no talent leagues out there?

Thanks

This would be the hardest of the hardcore. It would take at least four seasons to find real patterns.

I like the idea in general. The ability to predict how players will do is a big part of real GMing, but in real life it’s not done blindly, with no data. If you go to a baseball tryout you can see right away with your own eyes that some players are better than others. I agree that the fewer ratings, the better (I am the Commissioner of the talent-only Jamaica League). Being able to rate the players in some comparative way is realistic. The best GMs do the most with what they have, but if they don’t know what they have, what can they do?

The idea is great but only a well known Commish could pull this off because the Commish would have full access to the players' real ratings. The Commish probably could not even own a team. Good idea but would take the right person to pull it off.

I think the most realistic league would be one that ony uses current ratings and turns talents off. That way, you'll have a "scouting report" of how the player looks to you right now with the current ratings.

Having the talent ratings is kind of cheating with prospects because, really, how do you know how the player will do in the future. It's all a guess based on how he's doing right now compared to other players his age. Some guys get better and some don't.

The amateur draft is the only hard part about this because you can't view the players' current ratings on the draft printout of online leagues, only their talent. Now if you could display their current ratings along with their college/high school stats, that would be freakin amazing.

If I were to start or join a league, it would have to be with talent off and ratings set to 2-8 which is how real scouts grade anyway (they actually use 20-80). Prospects would be really hard to grade which could account for a lot of first round busts.

Well, if this type of league is ever set up - I would be happy to join in. You would probably have to sim a few years in advance of the league start so that everyone had stats to work with. As for the draft - OOTP grades them and you would have to look at their amateur stats, the grading (0 to 80, I believe), the scouts comments and go with that. You could also choose a college player over a high school player if you wanted a little safer choice.

Yes you do lose that "feel" that scouts and other use when watching prospective players but for all the normal players you have their past stats - major and minor league. As for minor leagers you have their draft rank and their minor league performance.

I'm not sure how it would work, but it would put a lot of challenge into the game - but most likely all the players would be under the same condition.

Surely the owners in every league trust their commissioners this much. If not, they’re in a sad state.

I like this idea and was thinking of doing it myself after the new BOSI comes out. I was going to do a historical one, though, so people could get *some* idea of how a player might perform by researching them before the draft.

When I looked at the output, for an online league, of the draft ready players when there were absolutely no ratings involved, I found that you would only get the player names and then dashes. It would be nice if you could output their "high school/college stats" in the HTML so that you could try and pull this off. As it stands right now, you'd probably have to turn some kind of ratings on for the draft page output, and then turn them back off.

Faced with that, I was thinking about doing a 2-8 on current ratings, and perhaps leaving the "stars" turned on.

When I do start a league, I will never own a team in it. I am a little surprised that there are not more "commissioner-only" commishes out there running leagues.
