Arizona Diamondbacks (U-25)

The Premise:
-
Using Todd Freaks Newest Rosters, I did a fantasy draft
-I took over the Diamondbacks.
-In a 60 pick draft, I drafted 60 blue star players. ( except in the 60th round, i drafted 1 star veteran jason tyner )

I'm curious to see if i will "worsen" these players by rushing them into the majors, or if some will succeed. To see if we can be a world series contender in some years?

Meet the Team: ( After 2 weeks of play) 4/14

The Good:
We haven't lost a game Tyner starts.

The Bad: Tyner is yet to start to a game, and we are battling for last in the league with a 2-10 record.
The "hitters"
Catcher: Justin Huber,22, 3.5 * : .263, 2 Hrs, 7 RBI's
Olin Wick, 22, 3*: 0/2 , 1 BB,1 Run

First Base: Prince Fielder,20,5*: .222, 4 Hrs, 11 RBI's, 13 K's

Second Base: Alfonso "the barbarian" Moreno,24,5*: .171,1 HR,1RBI
Rene Wisner,23, 3*: 0/1 1 RBI?

Third Base: Dallas Mcphereson,24,5*: .244, 5 RBI,6 BB
Greg Porter,24,3*: 2/4, 1 R

Short Stop: Joaquin Arias,20,4*: .056, 5 K
Erick Aybar,21,4*: .259, 1 Hr, 6 Rbi, 9 K

Left Field: Brad Hawpe, 25, 5* : .304, 3 Hr, 19 K
Jason Tyner, 27, 1*: .095 (2/21)

Center Field: Curtis Granderson, 24,5*: .250,16 K, 2 Hr

Right Field: Jeff Salazar, 24, 4.5*: .250, 2 Hr, 6 RBI
Michael Bourn,22, 3.5* : .143 (1/7)

The Pitchers

SP: Sean Burnett,22, 5*: 2-1, 2.70 ERA, 8 K, 20 H.A in 23.1 IP
Felix Hernandez,19, 5*: 0-3, 11.25, 6 K
Dustin Mcgowan,23, 5*: 0-1, 6.52, 7 K
Bret Gallagher, 18, 5* : 0-1, 27.01
Erik Threets,23, 4*: 0-1 , 3.00 era,
Bobby Jenks, 24, 4*: 0-0, 9.00 era, 6 K

Middle Relievers:
Charlie Manning, 26, * (yellow), 0-0, 2.25 in 12 innings, 6 K
Thomas Oldham,22, 4* : 0-1, 3.86,
Bobby Jenks

Set-Up Reliever:
Jim "the hammer" Mahurin, 22,5*: 0-0, 1 SV, 6.75

Closer: Duaner Sanchez, 25, 3.5*: 3.09 era, 10 K (11.2 IP)

Some Positive Things:
-We have a 9,021,429 payroll (lowest in the league )
-As a team, we have the 13th most hr's in the league ( 15)
-We're better then the 1-11 Yankees
- As good as 2-10 Twins, and just behind the Brewers 3-8
- We have the best prospects by a long shot ( news section)
-We still have a lot of 5* in A ball. Our single A team is tied for second 9-3

What I have learned is that pitching prospects are the easiest to screw up by rushing them. Of course that's what your going for, so it's all good.

Yep Yep, In every dynasty that I've noticed him, Sean Burnett always does good. The rest I hope don't "die" to fast

Two Game Series @ San Fran
Game 1 : Felix Hernandez ( 0-3,11.25) vs Carlos Zambrano ( 2-1,3.38)
Game 2: Sean Burnett (2-1, 2.70) vs K. Ishii (1-1, 7.56)

Game 1 : A solid outing from several players, actually kept the game reasonable. Our bullpen pitched well. San Fran-5 Dbacks-3

Salazar- 2/4 (Hr, Double)
Prince Fielder- 3/4 ( 3 doubles!)
Hawpe went - 1/3 making his average on the year .304

In 6 innings pitched Hernandez: 4 hits, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, L

Game 2: I could write a detailed report about this game, but it would only frustrate me more. San Fran 9- Dbacks 8

Fielder- 2/4 4 RBI'S , 2 doubles
Hawpe- 2/3
Arias- 2/4 triple 2 RBI
Granderson-1/4 2 runs, SB

Sean Burnett- 1.2 innings before getting injured

*FIELDER is tied for first in the league with 9 Doubles

We stand 2-14, 10 games out and the leagues worst

With all hope lost, I decided to sim away the rest of this season.

-We finished 36-126. The stats are humorous:
Starters:
Hernandez: 4-18, 5.96,122 K
Burnett: 7-20, 5.13, 120 K
McGowan: 2-22, 7.51, 129 K
Gallagher: 4-23, 9.31 , 84 K
Threets: 2-9, 5.43, 29 K

Relievers:
Jenks: 3-5, 7.90 , 66 K
Manning: 1-3,3.71,47 K
Oldham: 5-8, 6.47 ,87 K
Mahurin:4-7,7.90,78 K
Sanchez:6 SV,5.44,97 K

Interesting, McGowan is now a 4.5 * prospect, from a 5*.
Threets is a 5* prospect from a 4*.

-Jenks went up .5 star (4.5)

Hitters:
Hawpe: .314,22 HR,81 RBI -won gold glove- 2.5 yellow star
Wick: .275, 4 HR, 18 RBI
McPhereson: .265,20,78
Salazar: .264,11,56
Fielder: .258,22,91
Granderson:.256,9,47
Aybar: .251,5,49
Tyner: .231,0,30
Porter: .230,0,11
Bourn: .217,4,12
Moreno: .216,2,44
Huber: .211,14,61
Arias: .203,0,12
Wisner:.188,0,1

-Huber went down .5 * (3)

I was able to resign most of the team, losing a few players.

Off-season to come next

In free agent signing , I signed a 3* 24 year old Jeremy West. Finishing the Rule 5 draft, and Spring Training, our line up looked identical to last year.

These now youngsters had at least a year experience under their belt. I decided to sim a month, to see if this year had any hope.

We won the first game 2-1. After a month, we were in last place... but only 3 games out! The pitching was still ugly, but the hitting as a team improved greatly. A 10-13 record would be sufficient.

The June First Year Player draft was upon us, and I had the first pick.

The best hitter was a talent of 70 contact, 94 power RF Cefe Velazquez.
The best pitcher was Anthony Gallant. In very tough competion in HS, he was 13-0 in 14 games, with a .91 era. He had 136 K's.

I took Anthony Gallant.

Through out the year things got worse and worse.
