News System

First off let me say that I am very happy with the new additions in OOTP6. I really like the new DIPS system, 40 man rosters, rule V drafts, etc. Well worth the money in my opinion.

That being said, I have been playing OOTP since version 4, and the news system has stayed exactly the same. I think this is something that could be enhanced to really improve the quality of the game. About a year ago I tried out PureSim Baseball. I didn't play it for too long, I just had too many problems with the free agency, and the AI just didn't compare to OOTP. However, I remember it having a really cool news system. There were regular (I think monthly) news reports that provided all sorts of interesting info about the league. Stuff like Top 10 players in OPS, best rookies... And the thing that was cool was that every month the categories were different.

I think something like this would get me way more into my OOTP leagues. How cool would it be to see an article comparing the top 5 rookies in the league, or the 10 pitchers who've allowed the fewest HR/IP? Anyway, just a suggestion for OOTP7... or somewhere down the road.

There's a long list of folks would want to see some changes with the News system.

I'm not sure if Markus will see this post, but this needs to be addressed. It would add so much to the solo game. I sort of get bored b/c I only see numbers, not people. I love the game, but this would flesh it out a lot. I also like this about Pure sim.

I have to agree. It's nice to see POW and POM as well as everything else already there, but having new stuff in the news would make it better. Top 10 lists, maybe even some rivalry news. We all know there are some good rivalries between teams (Sox/Yankees)

How about the league transaction not taking over a minute to display all the information because we can not select whether we want to see trades, signinings, or releases, we have to see them all and for the whole year. I would love to be able to search the current month for trades only, etc options.

One thing that I think would be truly amazing would be "columnists" with their own opinions. I don't even know if something like this would be possible, but I would love to see articles like, "Leonard Garman is the Greatest Hitter Since Barry Bonds" (written in 2040) or "Carlos Alvarado Deserves to Win the Upcoming MVP Award."

I know it was being worked on before the .400 split. Hopefully it will start up again sometime because I agree it is one of the weaker areas of the game right now.

I'd run through hell in a gasoline suit in order to get work resumed on the news/ PbP project.

It would also be nice to see the News stories covering the playoffs, and the World Series. I don't think it covers the All-Star game either.
