OOTP Lifers

While I have been away from posting around here for quite awhile, I have been lurking in the background and eagerly awaiting the release of OOTP6. I am wondering how many of the people still around here have been with OOTP since the beginning (other than Steve and Marcus, of course!!). I still remember getting that original OOTP cd in the mail, and at the time, I thought that was the greatest game I had ever played!!! Of course, I was making the jump up from MicroLeague baseball on the old Apple IIe!! The original OOTP was a great beginning, however, and it is absolutely amazing to see the improvements made since that time.

So, who else out there is an "OOTP lifer"???

Welcome back.

My first version was OOTP3. I've been playing since April, 2001
Even though I had refused to post ANYTHING here, from April 2001 until August 2002, I was still playing the game.

In August of 2002, I realized the true, unmitigated Mensa-type quality of the members of OT and decided to grace their lives with my presence.

My life has gone downhill, ever since....LOL!

But OOTP6 is a lock to change all that. I'm sure it will be the definitive text baseball game for the ages to enjoy, for at least the next year (until the release of version 7).

my first was ootp3, which i bought as season ticket baseball...i didn't play it for too long for some reason...though i was very impressed with it, and thought it was even better than mogul, which had been my favourite up to that time...

i bought ootp4 when it came out, again as season ticket baseball, and i found these forums and got into online leagues...i think that's the big reason why it has kept me hooked for so long...

OOTP2 was my first version. I found it in January/February 2000, I believe. I was looking for a new game. Mogul had grown old and I remember liking the way OOTP2 looked. The colored bars depicting the ratings has always been one of the things I've liked about the game.

I will get every version of OOTP from here on.

I don't think I will ever buy OOTP. Not sure how you guys can sit around and play games without graphics.

OOTP3 here. Discovered the game while griping on the HH boards, checked it out, and haven't looked back since.

OOTP has graphics. Logos are graphics. Rectangles are graphics. Backgrounds are graphics. Faces are graphics. You wanna game without graphics, try one of the mid-80's era text adventures.

go forward
go left

OOTP4 was my first. I simply did not know the others existed. Had OOTP had graphics I would not have bought the game. I'v played about 4 different baseball games in the past that were console and one computer game with graphics. I think I would only consider one of them baseball.

OOTP3.

I don't remember why I decided to try it out...finding a random game online and then purchasing it? Not my style. But hey, it's been fun.

OOTP2, but I didn't know there was an on-line community about it until a year and a bit ago.

I thought that there were no future versions after it, would you believe!

OOTP2. Like spleen I was getting tired of Mogul and wanted something new.

I didn't frequent these boards regularly until the end of 2002, though. Before then, I just mostly came to ask questions. Now I spend a large chunk of my life here.

I've been here since the beginning. I just got out my OOTP and OOTP2 CDs the other day when I was sorting through some old PC games that I had. OOTP (1) had a white label with plain text while OOTP2 had a colorful flag design with a baseball player graphic on it.

I've been here since OOTP3. I heard about it on the Mogul boards - Mogul had decided to go with a more simplistic and mainstream game at that time and I figured it was time to go somewhere else. I think Mogul really hurt themselves when they went after the MLBPA license, etc.

Since then, it's been quite a run. There still isn't any real competition to OOTP.

In since v2, but havent purchased either v4 or v5, so looking forward to future shock. What hooked me then, as now, was the career mode plus the promise of nearly infinite customization.

What was version 1 like, anyway? I know version 2 was buggy and flawed to the extent that I didn't play it much and continued playing Mogul instead. It wasn't until 3 that I began to switch, and with 4 I became completely hooked.

Ditto. OOTP1 I didn't like much, but made me keep an eye on further developments. Despite its evident limitations for solo play, V2 was great for online. Like some said above, that's the main reason I support this game.

I'm a lifer

I used to get high heat baseball every year. about two months after the last edition of high heat (before the sell to microsoft) I got season ticket. I then went on to OOTP and never even thought about buying high heat again. I hear that MVP is great...... but it doesn't matter. Sticking with OOTP
