career ending injury--no headline?
I'm playing a solo fictional league. I just had my first player with a career ending injury... very sad, a talented pitcher wrecked his back.
So I went to the league news section - and there was no headline about it. This got me thinking that it would be nice to integrate a feature where I could write a news story, as well as having the auto-generated stuff. Or maybe this *is* possible, I dunno - I haven't been using OOTP for very long. (also would be nice to make the histories on the player cards editable, then could enter in personal or whatever info -- "player X is the brother of player Y" or whatever...) |

Hey skritchy,
If you go into your league folder, in the League_news_box folder, you'll find a Player folder. Find the player's number you want to edit, and edit away. Put anything you like in there. Also, in the league_news_box folder, you can create your own story.txt files.

so I tried it and it doesn' seem to work.
located the news stories files (storyX.txt, all saved in the LEAGUE_NEWS_BOX folder), found the most recent (story68.txt). So I wrote my own story69.txt in Notepad, using the appropriate format for links, and saved it in the right place. Then closed OOTP, re-opened it, went to the News Section, and ... story68.txt still showed up as the most recent headline. Then I simmed another week, and my story69.txt was overwritten with a new auto-generated one. what am I doing wrong? |

Don't know. I've only created stories twice. Once it worked, and once the same thing you experienced happened. Don't know what I did differently to make it work.
You can always just edit an existing story.txt file (including the headline) to include the item you want. Just pick a story that is close to your "career ending injury" date. Did you try the player history editing yet?

thanks, sounds like combining 2 into one is the best option - cuz if I replaced story68.txt, then I'd lose something...
thanks all. |

just found something interesting... the sim auto-generated some stories for serious injuries earlier in the season, like out for 8 weeks, out for season type stuff... weird that my guy's career ending injury passed unnoticed, perhaps because the sim only looks for this early in the year, and in my case it happened in august?
