Arrgh! Need League Ideas!

Well, I just succesfully managed to destroy my CATObase and its three back-ups for a solo league which (following Sixto's example) I had created each one of the players for. I wrote over each previous database, without copying them again, because I'd forgotten to copy the files from 'leaguesite' to 'data'. That after I'd had my first power-breakout, my first true ace evolve, my first one-hitter, my first win for the 'lesser' league in the division. Good job, me.

So, I need some new ideas for a league. I don't mind spending some time setting it up (obviously) but having just thrown away about 20 hours of my free time, nothing too extensive.

Here's some I thought about:

1 -Following the end of the first world war, the AL and NL are reorganised (perhaps including Negro Leaguers). Although I'll start with a historical base, all future rookies will be fictional.

2 - I've set up tripleAAA style leagues (with a few big-leaguers), but the finances have always done my head in by the end. Perhaps starting in the 10s/20s/40s/50s, a new league (perhaps in Canada? Mexico?) starts up. I'll basically live through the trials and tribulations, from its height at the start of the century and the mid-50s, before it will decline in the 70s and 80s with the spread of MLB, and then rise from the ashes (if I ever get there) in 2000.

Anything else occur to anyone?

I've told this idea to someone else before: the Iraqi league. As the Iraqis used to play football for the pleasure of Saddam's sons, now they got to play baseball with the GIs!

You got teams like a Kurdish team in Mosul, a Baath Sunni in from Tekrit,or a Shia team in Basra. And of course a British team in Abadan, a U.S. Army team in Baghdad, and even a Navy team in the Gulf ( A extremely strage-shaped field on a carrier?).

And of course, the Iraqi teams would be full of single A level players, while the British one perhaps double A, with the American teams major league. The finance part could be even more fun to set up.

And with all the Cheney money going to Pakistan and India contract workers, perhaps they can have teams too. I'd imagine they'd got the best talent outside of the American teams with their strong cricket ties.

Oh, and there could also be a UN team. They can use some nice pitching from Japan.

I actually thought of something similar once, using port cities post-WWII, but it took me so long mucking about with names (every Dutch player was called Gus Van xxxxx). I still think about doing a Hundred Years War league, but I can't think of a way to simulate duchies switching hands!

Well, I just start fictional leagues in year 10000 and pretend they are Alpha Centauri leagues.

You can just install a rule asking all players entering the baseball league to be renamed by the league.

I think Cato might have kittens at that. Do cockroaches make up the majority of relievers?

How about a Prisoner league (did you guys get 'The Prisoner'?) where everyone is referred to by only their uniform number. Era settings are 1984

I was thinking about a robots league in which there are only a dozen different player name/rating sets! Era settings are 2084!

I like the Iraqi league.... i may try it

Or how about a world league according to homeland.

Or a league where players 30+ have to go to the other league so one league has young guys but the other league has older guys
when they reach 30, they get drafted to the other league... but the two leagues still compete

Similarly you could have a senior tour league

I have a fictional historical league. Those are fun.

Another one I had at one point was a baseball league that surfaced in the wake of the 1994 strike. Eventually, I started importing real rookies and MLB players who switched over. That was fun.

And why not a Scottish league?

I did set up a 40-team, promotion/relegation type league, but it was too much work to control all the sides.

Arrgh! How about a Pirate league set in the Carribean back in like 1600? You could have all sorts of fun with team names and logos and such! Nicknames would be a blast. Hmmm... this might even be a cool online league idea...

I sort of did that once. Your biting sarcasm hurts me!

Have the duchies be the teams and have them switch leagues.
A HYW league would be cool!
