CDL Announces Expansion Plans

Cooperstown Diamond Legends will be expanding for 1993, our 25th season.

For some people reading this post, this might be the first you have heard of the CDL. The CDL was founded in July 2001 with the 1969 season using OOTP 3. There was a partial re-draft that spread the players out through the original 24 teams and laid the foundations for the tremendous parity the CDL enjoys. (Every original CDL team has made the playoffs at least once, which is quite rare in any sim league.) The CDL has strived to follow history throughout the last two and a half years through edited rookie pools that successfully reflect players’ actual careers. However, we have made one improvement over history by shifting to a three division set-up, which allows more owners to make the playoffs every season, adding to everyone’s enjoyment.

For those interested in the nuts and bolts of how the CDL works or how the CDL has managed to sim 24 seasons in a little over two and a half years, here is our schedule and commitment. The CDL sims on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays with 15 days per sim, which are never missed or rescheduled. We tend to have a very quick turnaround into the offseason, which also helps us march through history so quickly. This bodes well for potential expansion owners who will not have to wait as long as their first few seasons slowly pass.

Even more importantly that what the CDL is or when the sims are run, I should talk about the CDL owners themselves. The reason most of you have probably not heard of the CDL is that we almost never have to replace one of our great owners. Personally, I can say that I’ve been playing in sim leagues online for seven years now and have never had the privilege of playing with a better group of people.

The opening will be for the Florida Marlins as we have found an owner for the Colorado Rockies. We will wait a few days so everyone who is interested can get in touch with us, especially since this is the first time we have announced any openings in the CDL since the end of January, 2003.

I encourage everyone to go to the CDL website and take a look around. Those who are interested in applying should fill out an Application.

The CDL is an excellent league with a remarkable ownership core. The league leadership runs like a well-oiled clock, always on-time and always there. As a relative newb to the league I quickly realized that there is a sense of pride and caring that runs throughout the league. I could tell that both the owners and the commissioners care about their teams and the league.

I look forward to welcoming the new owner of the expansion Marlins and not just because he'll be stealing ..er... selecting my players in the expansion, or because he'll be in the NL East along with me. I look forward to welcoming the new owner of the expansion Marlins because they're going to be joining a really great league.

I would like to thank everyone who applied to the CDL for one of our expansion teams. We received many excellent applications and unfortunately had only one expansion team to offer a prospective owner. It was a difficult decision to make but we have filled the Florida Marlins.

While our expansion teams are filled, we are always interested in owners who are willing to be on our waiting list in case of an opening in the league.

I would also like to point out that while both VegasRobb and Jeff Cobb are in a number of leagues, I can say that I have nothing but wonderful things to say about them as CDL owners and are both valued members and contributors to the CDL Community. And if they enjoy being in the number of leagues they are in and people want them in their leagues, then they should be entitled to be in all of the leagues that they choose.

You know it's interesting, Jeremy. I don't remember the last time that either Jeff or Robb have missed a sim or live draft. So while they may very well be in many leagues, they are valued members of the CDL community and I'm sure every other league they're in.

I didn't mean anything by my post, it was a joke. A lot of people joke about how many leagues Cobb is in so I made that post. I know both of them are good guys and are active in all their leagues. I never questioned that and never will. The statement was meant in good fun, that's all.

There must be something about having 'obb' in your name that makes you join 75 leagues.

I'll agree with Matt though, I don't recall the last time Jeff Cobb missed a lineup in any league that I've run.

UKSubs- I must say I think one of the coolest parts of your whole league/site is the banner at the top, that flashes with all of the past World Series winners. Very neat!

And you have no idea the lengths some CDL owners will go to get one of those banners....

Not that I speak from experience or anything like that
