Play-by-Play Issue....
I got this PBP Issue in ITP, but since there is more action going on over here, I thought I'd post this. I'm in the playoffs and it really ticked me off to see it happen! LOL
Anyways.. Here's what happened. We're losing 9-4, and we start making a run for it in the 8th inning, and before you know it, it's 9-6, runners on 2nd and 3rd only 1 out. Here's the issue: A hit to the outfield... NO MATTER WHAT, the runner on 3rd will NEVER, EVER, EVER, leave 3rd base unless it hits the ground. Well it so happens, There was a catch in the outfield, and walla, the runner on 3rd was already going home on the play, and is thrown out at 3rd. THAT has to be fixed. One other thing... I noticed this a lot in games, and it's very untrue in the majors... For the most part. If there is a runner on 2nd and a basehit with LESS than 2 outs, the man who got the hit will also NEVER go to 2nd, EVEN with a play at home. Over 95% of the time he will NOT go to second to try advancing on the throw. It happens everytime there is a play the plate in OOTP. Now, with 2 outs and a basehit with a play at the plate, it's the complete opposite, 95% of the time the runner will try to go to second. Now, I'd like to see these fixed, or see what other people think about it. I know the first one has to be fixed, and the 2nd one isn't that big of a deal, but it's unrealistic, imo. |

I'm not quite sure when you are seeing this, because I constantly have guys get thrown out at 2nd base when trying to stretch a single to a double, cuz they saw the ball be thrown towards home plate. Also, check out your players stats, I'm sure that a good number of them have Sac flies. You may just not notice it, except for when it's bad.

That's the point. You DON'T stretch out a single into an extra base with under 2 outs. It screws the momentum up. Everyone who plays baseball past high school knows this.

You aren't serious?
Taking the extra base happens all the time with any number of outs, it all depends on the situation. But it certainly can and does happen w/ less than 2 outs.

Taking the base happens happens nearly EVERY time with 2 outs..
With less than 2 outs, it's a players MISTAKE that they take second base. Coach's are against it and will tell the runner that they made a mistake, whether or not they get there in time. It take a good runner to get to 2nd base under two outs. You have to be rounding first and watching the throw home. You have to observe the throw, then make a split second decision (Is the throw too high? Is it too low?) I'm sure there is something on this somewhere. Coaches don't tell there players to go for second everytime(which pretty much happens whenever there is a play at the plate in OOTP/ITP) whenever there is a throw home with under 2 outs. I'm not trying to create an argument with you Steve. I'm just giving my thoughts. And if I'm wrong, I want to see it, so I guess I'm trying to create a little mini argument. But like I said in my first post, it's not that big of a deal. Last edited by mauboy; 01-17-2004 at 11:48 PM. |

To say taking the extra base w/ less than 2 outs is a mistake "I feel" is incorrect. To say that it happens too much(more than it would IRL) in the game or to say that taking the extra base with less than two out is a difference in philosophy would probably be more accurate.
It's possible that it does happen to frequently in the game and may need to be looked at in the future. But to say it should never happen I feel is incorrect and that maybe according to a certain "coaching style" it shouldn't happen.

Like I said, it does happen..
In the next version, with OOTP being more detailed, and I don't know where the detail is going exactly, but, perhaps have the higher stealing base guys be able to do it, and not the lower guys(The smart ones, you know what I'm sayin, you created the game.). Anyways. I don't know why I brought this up I guess. But the first one, definitely, the 3rd base tagging up thing. That's not a 'dumb' mistake, he'd get fired for it, in the deciding game of the series. lol anyways.. great games. I haven't gotten bored with ITP, OOTP5. I got ITP the day it came out, and OOTP5 the day it came out. So, you still have me bud. Keep it up on 'em. |
