Question This may be a bug....

...or just user error.

I just bought OOTP4...I am a first time OOTP user, so I am just getting used to how the game works.

I started out creating a custom league with 16 teams. I set it up as:

1 league
2 Divisions
8 Teams in each division

After I went through the first regular season, there were no playoffs....it just prompted me to start the next season. I thought the winner of the Northern division would play the winner of the Southern division, but that never happened. So who was the Champion??? How do I find out?

Also, is there somewhere I should have set the playoff parameters? Like, how many playoff teams there are, series length, etc....I don't remember seeing this option.

Thanks for your help.

Currently you have to have 2 leagues for there to be playoffs automatically set up by the game.

Otherwise you'll have to manually schedule the playoff games and there is a pretty decent chance that the game may end up messing your stats by doing that..

What I would suggest you do is move the other division over as another "League" Then you'll have playoffs. You will have to regenerate a schedule and you'll probably have to enter it by hand... because currently the games scheduler doesn't allow for interleague play.

Thanks for the follow-up.

If I understand correctly, there are no divisional playoffs? If this is true, you can not have a league champ with one league and two divisions? That doesn't seem right....was the game designed that way on purpose?

I guess I will just have to recreate my league with 2 leagues and 1 division in each.

Thanks

You are correct in all those statements. OOTP4 probably allows more customization than any PC sports game but sometimes that freedom can anger users when they find a limit to what they want to do. In this case I really think it is not a programming priority to change this now as there are simple workarounds (like your suggestion) that can work perfectly. There are similar issues with 32+ total teams, issues that mostly work well with workarounds for now. In the near future some of this may be addressed by outside utilities. Thanks to Pierres utils in OOTP3 you could combine leagues or move players from one league/association to another.
