Fielding Ratings?
OK, I've been playing the game for a while and I have a question about defense ratings because I am begining to think what I originally thought, may not be so.
OK, it says my 3B has an A Range. But does that mean that is how good of a fielder he is? Is there another rating? Am I missing something? Thanks!! |

Yes. The A is his range. You should take a look at fielding pct.

So fielding percentage is the only other way to judge how good they are at a position?

Letter rating A-E represents his ability to get to a ball, while Fielding % is simply a measure of how many balls he fielded cleanly once he got to them.

But fielding percentage is merely an indicator, not a guarantee. For example, I have a shortstop (in the GForce roster set) with "B" range and a fldg. pct. of 1.000. But I've seen him make errors in games. Not many, but occasionally. If fldg. pct. was absolute and a guarantee, he'd never make any errors.
So don't expect fielding percentage to guarantee the number of errors a player makes over the course of a season. It's a good indicator of that percentage number, but nothing more. Luck and random chance still continue to play a part. |

I am not an expert on Range and Fielding Percentage, but have seen posts that say the following:
Range is more important than Fielding Pct. A player with A range and .960 FPct is better than an E range with .980 percentage. An A range might get to 50 more balls per season and yet make only 2 more errors. Do a search on "Range" and get better and more specific info on this subject. Just because a player has "0" in batting ratings or passed ball ratings does not mean they will have "0" in the game...they will have something close or in the ballpark to their ratings. A player with a 1.000 fielding average could make some errors. Last edited by Eugene Church; 12-12-2003 at 01:46 PM. |
