Click ... Click .... Click .... Drag ?

Anyone else notice that while navigating in the game when you click the screen it will sometimes move with the mouse? I like the feature but man it is real sensitive!

For those of you who know what I am referring to have you found a way to disable this?

I downloaded at last, but haven't paid for a license yet. There are a couple of things missing that I was looking forward to, so I may just wait until they show up. One odd thing I noticed when I was in the game, was the random appearance of bits of another screen peeking through. Another thing is the vanishing cursor. When I move the cursor around the screen, it sometimes vanishes when I'm trying to click on an option. Don't know if it is a sign of something buggy. (Hate to use that word.)

I like the general look of the screens. Even the blurry animations. The sound is great. The music is OK, but I think I'll mute it.

I want to be able to take up where I left off in TF2K1. So I'm looking forward to the fighter transfer.

FWIW, I haven't seen either of these problems on either of my two computers.

Between not being able to run the game without a freeze and the game actually running for a few minutes prior to crashing with an <unknown> error the screen dragging effect has definitely occurred on more than one occasion for me.

I've had the game running since I first installed it(right as it was available) and haven't had a single issue yet. You may want to upgrade to win2k/xp or reformat if you already have one of those OS's.

So the game doesn't run on Windows Me as it claims?

Besides, other members are having the same exact problems on Win98 and WinXP. At this stage of the game I would tend to believe that it is not the operating systems fault. There is probably some type of small tweak that needs to be made on the programming side that will resolve this whole ordeal. They just need to find the needle in the haystack and that will take some time.

I was having some crash issues running the game on ME as well. I used the Windows update though and that SEEMS to have fixed all the crash problems for now. Granted I've only had about a half-hour of gaming since then. You guys may want to check that you have all the critical updates from Microsoft installed and see if that helps.

Foxseven - I also had the screen move every time I clicked something. That issue seems to have vanished though for the time being.

If you click on the screen anywhere in the top most 60 pixel, you can drag the screen around, just like another windows program. That's a feature, not a bug. But what you're telling sounds like this happens when you already released the mouse button, and that is not OK of course. I have to find the reason and have to tweak it. It's on our list.

I like Windows. But Windows ME is the worst Windows version ever. The game runs on Windows ME, yes! If all patches are installed and if the system is clean, just like after a fresh installation.

When does this mouse click/drag screen problem happen?

You have to understand that win95/98/Me has memory leak issues that have never been fixed. So that means if you've been running these OS's for 6 months or more they need to be reformatted or upgraded to avoid instability.

Now that may or may not be your issue, but it is a fact. I have a feeling that upgrading the OS and video/audio drivers will fix your problem. Under my conditions the game seems quite stable.

I spent the past several hours having reformatted one the machines hard drives and reinstalling everything. All updates were done for the OS, video and audio drivers.

No change.

I then reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled everything including drivers but with Win98 instead.

No change.

I then reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled everything including drivers but with WinXP Professional instead.

No change.

EDIT: I will have completed building two brand spanking new computers by this weekend all with top of the line hardware and the latest OS and drivers. Hopefully neither machine will have any problems. Considering this and the fact that I have not purchased the game for myself yet there is no rush or dire need to find a fix for me personally. However, I have felt that reporting the situation and helping to resolve it if at all possible would be best for everyone in the long run.

I haven't been able to actually play the game for long without a crash but the screen drag always seems to happen within the first couple of minutes. Each and every time it has happened near the middle of the screen or even lower. Sometimes it has happened when clicking on an option in a drop down menu. Instead of selecting the option it instead grabs the screen and starts moving it around. The only way to stop the drag is to click the mouse again. Never once has this happened to me where the mouse was still pressed in.

Did you try the latest drivers for your graphic card? Any chance to test another graphic card? DirectX9 probably?

Hm, that didn't happen here. And, since your computer often crashes, I assume that this game is not compatible with your computer hardware or anything. I mean, when the crashes happened after installing 3 different Windows versions- whew. It really has to run on a fresh XP installation.

I'm very sorry, but I guess your computer doesn't like this software. The only way for us to solve this problem is to debug the game on your PC wish obviously isn't possible. So I guess we can only give you a refund. Please contact Viatech during seven days after purchasing and you'll get a full refund.
Again, sorry!

It's all right Andreas since I haven't purchased the game yet. I have the initial two releases that included the Trial option.

Both computers have different graphics cards and are running the latest drivers for each. One computer is running DirectX 9 and the other is running version 8. I don't even want to list the various high-end graphic intense games that are currently operational on both machines. However, it should be noted that out of all of the games installed on both machines this year this and Decent3 are the only two that have given me any problems what so ever.

Two questions:

1. What would be the odds that this game wouldn't run on two different computers that are both running OOTP5 without a hitch?

2. If OOTP5 can run on both of these computers with the Direct3D options enabled then what if any are the differences between the two games that would cause D3D not to run for one of them?

Thanks for the detailed info about the situation and most of all the fact that OOTP5 works. Now that is a real problem.
Please try it without sound. Set the 3 settings in the config.ini to zero like this:

PlayMusic=0
PlayCrowdNoises=0
PlayAnySounds=0

Does that change anything?

If you run TB without D3D, does that change anything?

Hopefully some useful information:

Computer 1 (Latest download without the trial)

Freezes computer every time I click the Purchase button except on one occasion yesterday.

Computer 2 (Second download FTP server)

Freezes computer every time I click the Purchase or the Trial button except on a few occasions over the past couple of days. I have been able to experiment with the Trial version to a certain extent.

On Monday the trial version could be accessed on about 25% of the attempts. Once it was accessed it would crash with an <unknown> error each time within only a few minutes of navigation.

On Tuesday the trial version could be accessed on about 75% of the attempts and didn’t crash even once during navigation.

Note: All of the above has happened regardless of D3D or not and even with it manually turned off in the config file.

Note: All of the above has happens regardless of the sound options manually changed in the config file.

Note: the music has been disabled since the first successful access of the Trial since I was already experiencing problems and that seemed like the best place to start.

Despite having the Trial active without any problems for over an hour last night prior to shutting the computer off and having done nothing differently since then I can honestly say that I do not feel completely confident that the game will run next time or will again freeze the computer instead.

I find it interesting that the computer freeze will happen on two different computers at just about the same exact spot. Clicking the Purchase button on one computer is only slightly different than clicking the Trial button on the other. What is occurring behind the scene right as either of those buttons are pushed that could possibly cause someone’s computer to freeze? Maybe there’s a clue there that could help narrow down the common denominator well enough to isolate the issue.

Thanks again for the detailed info.

This evening I got a mail from Viatech with an updated eLicense toolkit. The old version sometimes caused crashes which happen just after closing the purchase screen. I've generated a new version, which is available online now. Probably that helps.

I was having similar problems.

I now can play the game.

Here is what I did.

1. Uninstall the game.

2. Delete anything else on the machine from the game.

3. Empty Recycle Bin.

4. Defrag the HD.

5. Install any/all the Windows Updates.

6. DL the game.

7. Install the game.

8. Connect to internet.

9. Open an external IE browser.

10. Click on Shortcut.

11. Click Purchase.

12. Buy Lic.

13. Input Order number.

14. Follow rest of the directions(I dont remember).

This is what finally worked for me.

I do still have some of the click/drag problems, but I don't freeze up and have to unplug the machine to reboot the computer.

I'm gonna check my mouse sensitivity and see if that is the source of the click/drag.

Andreas, is there anyway to make the game NOT drag at all?

I plan on clearing both machines out completely and following the directions above with the newest download.

Most of the details above have been covered many times already including the updating of the operating system and drivers as well as already having IE open.

However, working from step 1 with the new file seems like the best option for now.

Thanks again.
