It's about time. Weird that it happened in a year when someone else had a legitimate claim (Posada) but it almost makes up for the other 5 years he should have won it.

Edit: Actually, Delgado would have been a good choice too. Still, this makes up for 96 and 02.

Vernon Wells should have gotten more respect for this award.

Yankees' Jason Giambi got one first-place vote

How the hell did that happen.

How did David Ortiz rank in the top 50 in voting, nevertheless the top 5?

I'd give Giambi a first place vote over half the guys who actually got one.

Probably the voter was the smart brother of the one who gave Tejada and his .807 OPS another first-placer.

Despite themselves, the BBWA got something right. The idiots who voted for Shannon Stewart however, need to be fired- these idiots fail to realize that Santana's move into the rotation had more to do with the Twins success than Stewart. Either way, at least A-Rod was recognized for what he did.

I wonder when the phenomenon began to vote for a Shannon Stewart type - a guy who clearly you vote for because you want to prove that you are the smartest guy in the press box and you know a ballplayer when you see one. Barry Larkin's MVP is certainly one such case. Zoilo Versalles maybe? Because sometimes that guy goes ahead and wins.

I have been an advocate of trying to look somewhat beyond the stats, but in this case not only did A-Rod have the best stats, but also there were no other clear-cut candidates. Expect A-Rod to come out and say, though, that the award is "hollow" to him because of his team's poor form.

Statheadzzz, including myself, are very quick to bash the BBWA, but this year they have done a pretty good job with the awards. Sure, they seriously dropped the ball on NL Rookie of the Year, but other than that they have done a good job. They got Berroa right, which I didn't expect them to, and now they cap it by (FINALLY) giving ARod what should be his third MVP.

Because he had 164 game winning hits for the Sox.

I know he had 5 game winning HRs in extra Innings.

So did he help them win 169 games or just 164 games this year. Your post confused me.
