Runtime Error

I keep getting a Runtime error, a few times a season and also had one when proceeding to the next year. THe proceeding to next year caused a loss in all of the preseason actions. Coaches, free agents, amatuer draft never initialized.

Runtime Error!
Program:C:\Program Files\OOTP4\OOTP4.exe
abnormal program termination

Seems to happen mostly in scheduling promos during the season.

If these errors are always happening in the same league it's possible multiple crashes have corrupted some files and a "reset league" may help. Other than that I'd just ask that you make sure you have the latest version of DirectX installed. As this is the #1 possible reason I'd suggest installing the newest version even if you are pretty sure it's installed now. Also double-check your system's date. If the year is incorrect, change it to the current year.

After tha the next troubleshooting I'd suggest is that you have plenty (maybe 1 gig+) of free hard drive space left, that your video drivers are current, that there are no background apps that are causing a system resource drain (OOTP is a fairly greedy app and needs some resource room no matter how much RAM you have installed), and that you make sure to reboot if you experience a crash or freeze with any windows program.

This is not an unusual system error, but it can sometimes be due to operating sytem issues as well and I have not yet seen it mentioned as a problem regarding this game. If none of my suggestions help or apply it would be good to get some further info on your system (video card make, had space, hd space free, etc.) and further info (if possible) on the game crash. If you are experiencing no other system problems you may want to unlicense and reinstall the game too, though I am not convinced that needs to be done yet with these symptoms. Maybe also check for a windows update as well when you are downloading the newest Directx and checking for new video drivers.

20 Gigs of Hard drive space. Direct X 8.1
most recent video drivers. Downloaded patch for game, crashes start to happen. Uninstalled game then downloaded the entire new setup file. Still crashes. Will try to install game with original setup file later, since It didn't crash until the patch.
