Historical League - A POLL
HISTORICAL LEAGUE PLAY
VOTES NEEDED Here's the issue: there are two modes of play in OOTP - "REPLAY" mode and "CAREER" mode. "Replay mode" resets most of the accumulated stats to zero (keeping best stats only in the record books) and offers the choice of replaying the same season over and over again. For example: If one had just finished playing the 1901 season the only choice is to "RESET" the season stats to zero and begin the next season by starting the same year all over again. "Career mode" allows the user to "roll stats over" to the next year and keeps accumulated records for every other year in which a season is played. The downside for historical leagues is that players age and develop. In otherwords, the historical effects of players change. Players in the FREE AGENT pool would also age and change. This means that, at some point, the historical leagues would run out of a significant number of players who may or may not have played (due to the large number of players in the database). In otherwords, the database would soon become "exhausted" - excuse the pun! So, here's the issue and vote: 1) How many of you would be in favor of a 'REPLAY" mode which does not allow for aging and development but includes the option of "rolling stats and salaries, etc." over to following years? This way, one could play as many seasons as they want and have each players and each teams stats accumulate year by year. This would allow for 'CAREER" mode play without aging and development. Vote: "YES" on the "REPLAY ROLLOVER" Prop. 2) How many of you are happly with the way the two modes are set up now? Vote: "NO" - I'm happy eating chicken pot-pie! Spanky |

For the sake of clarification, let me add that I'n not advocating that the existing "Career Mode" be changed in any way nor am I suggesting that the "Replay Mode" - as is - be changed except only to add the "option" that one could choose to play in the
"Replay mode" and "roll stats over" to following years without the effects of aging, development, and retirement. You see, as it is now, the "Replay Mode" only allows one to play the same season over and over again. The season standings and stats are lost forever and the record books will be written over since one is locked into playing the same year over again. This seems a little monotonous to me! Don't you want some mustand on that dog? So, vote "YES" Prop. "Roll Over" to expand the "Replay Mode" - and give us the option to make it similar to the "Career Mode." Spanky |

Career means career and replay means replay. End of story.

yes
An option like this would be very useful for quick and easy comparisons between simulations. I have a fantasy all-time league, using players from all baseball history with a good deal of standardization included to try to semi-accurately portray the differences that players would have statistically. I cannot at present run a year and store its final statistics without some 3rd party utilities, even then it is not always in a useful or quick to access format. Beyond team stats like standings and overall stats, it is difficult to make effective use of these outputs. Such a thing would allow me to make such overall adjustments (like simply more doubles or HRs) as I would see fit, and to experiment in order to see which players are generally good and which are floundering and might need replaced. One other thing, I'd like it to erase the '1st HR/hit' thing every time you do a replay (it just keeps tallying no matter how many times you run the thing), or just not even keep track of it in a replay league. This is something useful in a career league where players have a long history and while it doesn't take up much room at all, it is room that I personally would rather see used to help store prior simulated stats for example.
While it would have the effect of being a 'career' league where players have 'historical' stats, I think it would serve my purposes quite a bit better. I have no interest in playing Brian Jordan instead of Babe Ruth on my team simply because Ruth is aged or retired. I might play him if he tires over the season or gets hurt. Besides that, I spent a good deal of time assembling data and computing averages so forth. That effort I would prefer bear fruit. This sort of league is created with the specific intent of playing with the all-time greats of baseball assembled on a variety of rosters. Career play is wasted for this sort of thing, replay is preferred. |

Sounds good to me, but I never play replay mode, so it doesn't matter to much as far as I'm concerned.

Focus on the question guys
The "replay mode" as it now stands is ok if your only interested in playing "one" season worth of baseball and not interested in accumulating "all-time" stats.
What I'm proposing is that this mode be expanded to give us the "option" of playing in a "career mode" like way where we may elect to play multiple seasons and accumulate and maintain the "stat" results of our play. However, unlike "career mode" the "real stats" would be keep in tack. That way, historical buffs can always refer to the "real" season and make adjustments or change players or change lineups or change a players team. Also, maybe there should be another "option" in the "replay mode" to allow or disallow for aging, retirement, and development. But again, the "real stats" are preserved for reference to their historical content and accuracy. Capice? Spanky |

i'm sure it would be useful to a lot of people and doesn't seem that it would be too difficult to program so I suppose I vote yes, although I would never use something like this

Have You Voted Lately?
Quote:
Let's hear it for the "EXPANDED REPLAY MODE" - where we can enjoy many of the same features as the "Career Mode." I'm not advocating that we change the "Career Mode." I just want to expand the "Replay Mode" to allow for "Career Mode" type play but only with the added "option" of turning off player development, aging, and retirement. Also, I'd prefer the additional option of saving the "Real Life" stats for future reference. What's wrong with this request. I don't want to keep playing the same season over and over again. I'd like to play continuous seasons that build upon previous stats and accomplishments. Don't you? Smiles Spanky
