With the exception of Killebrew and some other vets on this, it seems as if most of you/us are insane. People get so upset. If someone says this game sucks, than it does, for them. Getting defensive about what people think is about as ridiculous as taking them serious. We don't know eachother, and for all we know, it could be some 12 year old kid on the other end just spouting off. Anyway, before jumping off my soapbox, I'd like to remind all the the planets are alligned which should make us a bit more gentle. O'yeah, yankees suck and the redsox rule. Just in case you did not know.(And no, i'm not 12, i'm 31).

it ain't the criticism, it's the way that criticism is voiced.
a little tact goes a looooong way.

31 and you're still a Redsox fan, eh? As a Yankees fan, I always like to share insights into definitions of 'suck' or 'rule'. I have a website you might be interested in taking a peek at:
Redsox Dominance I do agree with you, however, on your comments regarding message board posters taking personally any negative things written about the game. May Pedro stay healthy for an entire year, to at least make the division race interesting. Chris

Go to any other game's message board, a specific car board, or any other product, and tell them that their product "sucks". You're bound to get some similar reactions. Constructive criticism is fine, but when blanket statements are thrown around with no factual basis, it's kind of hard to take the person seriously.

spouting off? defensive? This is a discussion board after all, either shouldn't really bother any of us as long as people respect each other and do not get personal (i.e calling people insane!!!)
Bottom line is if you decide to rip a game that many enjoy, on that games home turf no less, then you should expect people to get defensive. I think we all know the game is not perfect, I have things I'd like to see added/tweaked. But rather than start a new thread ripping those features or non-features, Markus has supplied us with a great resourse called the "Suggestions and Feature Wish List" forum. If you want "the manager to lean on certain relievers and avoid others. Or quick hook some starters and not others.", (two idea's I really like btw), then post it in the wish list forums, Markus has always been opened minded about new ideas. But don't start a thread calling it the worst game of baseball you ever played, then be shocked when people get defensive... [ 04-22-2002, 05:48 PM: Message edited by: edm ] |

Ah, saying insane upset another ultra liberal touchy feely(yes, another joke). If you noticed, I put "you/us" in the phrase, as I am more insane then most, which I like. Anyway, yes, constructive is better, but give me a break, we a game "Players", not manufacturers. And, as a fellow programmer, i'm sure markus is alot thicker than that, cuz as coders, our work is always subjective, and many wont like it. The goal is to be satisfied with it yourself, and have your clients, for the most part, appreciate it, which we do markus. But, if we thought that everyone should and would like our code all the time, we would burn out in a week. Anyway, to the yankee fan, I am very happy to find another fan that doesn't take our rivalry too serious. Damn, if I did, i'd be dead, we're talking about the RedSox here, were not happy unless we are complaining. Here's hoping Pettite doesn't have anything serious wrong with the elbow, he's always been a class act and doesn't deserve the arm problems.

I agree hooch....I have pretty much quit posting anymore due to the petty crap that goes on. I only use the boards for very bare bones stuff (receiving or giving game related help or advice). If you attempt to voice an opinion or sometimes even make a suggestion, it is like the sky is falling. I know it is the same on all the other larger boards. That's why I decided to get a life and quit hanging out with cyber buddies all day.

Dagrims - we already know our team chokes, collapses, and flat out sucks most of the time.
But hey, we can dream.

Give me a break here, I've been to 100 message boards for music, games, sports, etc., and this is probably one of the LEAST insane boards I've ever been to. Most people here are nice, knowledgable, and willing to listen to criticism. People that do come in here looking to start fights will probably succeed with some of the more defensive of us, but if you're just in here to talk baseball or OOTP, then there's hardly any B.S. that goes on compared to most boards. If anything, when someone points out a game flaw, it ends up as a change or alteration on the wishlist for the next patch or full release. But seriously, we have very few "trolls" in here, and it's really not a bad experience at all, if you don't mind just ignoring the morons that pop up.
