Hall of Fame -- manual inductees?

Hi there,

I am sure this has been brought up before, but I was wondering if it's possible for OOTP4 to allow one to manually induct a player into the Hall of Fame. This would be valuable for leagues that use fictional players with no prior career data. Right now, such a player may put up great stats year after year, but if he was already 28 years old when the league started, he may not reach the career totals required for induction.

You can already manually induct players into the Hall of Fame... however the player must have enough at bats or innings pitched to have been saved as a retired player, before you can induct them. I've inducted players with as few as 4 years experience (he was simply dominating over those first four years).

Once you manually induct a player, how can one edit the year the game says he was inducted? I have inducted just one player manually, pitcher Karl Hernandez, who went 215-115 in just 11 seasons and holds the lowest lifetime ERA. I inducted him into the hall just prior to the start of year XIX (or 1949). But the game says he went into the hall in 1944, the year after he retired. This would officially make him the FIRST player to enter the Universal Baseball Association Hall of Fame, which is simply not true. How do I rectify this?

Are you sure the game did not already induct him the year after he retired?
That would be my only gut feeling.

No I'm sure the game did not do it, since Karl failed to meet the minimum criteria, which the game always adheres to, but which I am more lax on in these early years (he was one of my first-year players in season I and already around 30 years old when he started.

thats weird.
i know when i first started i had some in the hall but thats before i learned you could delete career stats. But ive seen your name for a while here so im sure thats not it.
Only other thing i can think of is if you had the
HOF credentials set and changed them later.
But that is weird.

yes it IS weird, and a minor annoyance at worst... hopefully one of the gurus (ScottVib, Killebrew, OTTP1, etc.) will know the answer...

Unfortunately I don't know of a way to edit the HoF induction year... I even tried checking in Pierre's editor but couldn't find a way to do it in there.. maybe if you can add to his stats one extra year worth of data (1 game played) it would adjust the date, that's the only thing I could think of that might work.

The game uses the last year played as reference for the induction year regardless of what year the player is inducted. If a players last major league AB/IP was in 1950 and you manually induct the player into the HOF in 1970 it would still show up as "inducted in 1951." The game doesn't take into account the actual playing year it only uses a player's stats at determining the induction year and there is not way to "manually" correct this, unfortunatly once a player has retired then Pierre's player editor will not edit the player's career stats.

I manually inducted Rickey Hendreson and Mark Grace.

Hmmm. Actually, here's my problem.

I want to start a league in 1920. But I'd also like to manually induct some players that played PRIOR to that.

So in this case, these guys aren't on the retired players screen. Is there any way to get these guys in my HOF?

It would be nice to be allowed to edit the induction year for players you are adding manually. For example, let's say Player X retires in 1950. His numbers are pretty good, but you feel he is a marginal HOFer so you want to wait to induct him. So you finally put him in in say 1965. The way it works now, his induction year is the year he retires. Any thoughts out there?

This zip file should get you started. It will only work if your league is still in its first season, just placed the retired.dat file in your league's folder. It has some career leaders who would be in the Hall of Fame. Now if you would like to add to this file or create your own here is what you need to do:

1) Create a custom 4-team league (you can set the start date to 1920 if you want) and set the schedule to only play 30 or so games.
2) Sim out the 30 game season until the league is ready to "proceed to next season" but Do NOT press the button.
3) if you want to append to the file I included then place it in this league's folder (you can do this once the league is created) but it must be placed inside the league's folder.
4) Now import all the players you would like to have included. For this use the last year of the playing career as their "import" season. What this means is if you wanted to import Ty Cobb use 1929 as his "import" year since 1928 was his last year.
5) Once you have imported all the players you want you may proceed to next season. In almost all cases the players imported will retired during the offseason, only a couple of players have caused me problems and thats usually players that have their careers cut short for whatever reasons (Al Spalding & Sandy Koufax are two that I recall who didn't retire during the offseason). Now you can take the retired.dat file and place it in the league's folder that you want to use it in and the retired players will be there.
