Tasteless Sports acts of All-Time

I know it's not good to focus on negative aspects of games and players, but sometimes I can't help myself. During these days of being politically correct, and walking the high road, in an effort to present one's self as a valuable member of society, a certain Major League Ballplayer decided the low road was for him, instead.

Robert Fick's bonehead play and subsequent response to the media after yesterday's Cubs/Braves playoff game, should not only be embarrassing for the team, but for Atlanta Brave fans everywhere.

His dirty "tomahawk chop" upon Eric Karros' arm as he reached firstbase was appalling and senseless. But not quite as base as his pathetic outburst to media members after the game.

"I'm not saying I did it on purpose, but it's ******* baseball."
Fick told reporters, with an I-don't-give-a-crap-if-he-was-hurt attitude.

Cub's manager Dusty Baker said, "It wasn't a clean play, that was poor judgement."

In an equally idiotic tone, Fick responded with, "I don't care what Dusty says. If he wants to call it a cheap ******* play, he can call it whatever he wants."

For good measure, once again blatantly displaying his classless persona, Fick added, "The play that happened with me and Karros, had nothing to do with the ******* game, because the guy (Karros) came up and hit a ******* home run. So his arm must not have been hurt too bad." His words an indication that, in his mind, he might think of doing the same exact thing, if he were in an identical situation, in the future.

When asked whether he's ever encountered a similar incident, Karros responded, "Not on a baseball field."

Perhaps on a gridiron? Even a defensive lineman is penalized for doing something like that.

To purposefully take a cheap shot at anotherplayer in this manner is uncall for, disgusting and extremely tasteless. I would hope his Ty Cobb-ish sense of boorishness is something that Atlanta management, the players and their fans, would want to rid themselves of, come next season.

I suppose I wouldn't have bothered to type out this long rant if after the game we would have heard this pompous ass say something to the effect of, "I was reaching for the ball, in Karros' glove as I went by, I missed and clipped his arm, and I accidently hurt him. I'm sorry that I missed and hurt the guy, I didn't mean to." Of course, this would be asking way too much from a lowlife like Fick.

If anyone can think of other tasteless players or the reprehensible plays that they have made in the past, feel free to add it to this.

Mild Rant over.

Oh please......no I did not see the play or a replay but how bad could it have been. Sounds like loser's limp to me.

No I am not agreeing with his action but to say it was one of the worst of all time ?

You can't go from ignoring me to baiting me. It's not ethical.

It ranks with the top 5 I've ever seen.

It was Dennis Rodman-esque, is the only way to put it. It reminded me of a number of his antics and dirty plays.

nahhh, you're one of the good guys, usually. If you had seen the play and disagree, then it would be obvious that your team loyalty clouds your judgement. I don't think you're like that though.

Turn on Sportscenter or something. They may show it again.

Besides, how is a Braves fan not watching a playoff game?

I've been reading Braves fan reaction over this, and it seems that a majority agree it was reprehensible, reminding many of then of the infamous John Rocker. That sounds about right. Many of them say he should be kicked of the team.

If I sound like I have "loser's limp." What does this say about Braves' fans? Winner's Limp?
I also noticed a new item about his recent history involving sexual harassment of a stewardess when he aboard a Charter Flight, while he was still with the Detroit Tigers. An incident I don't recall, but found out about it in the Braves-Fan section of that site.

His opinion of the incident was that the woman "took it all wrong."
He wasn't even remorseful over the incident. A truly classless individual.

The John Rocker reference seems ideal, and appropriate.

This is the only part that looks like whining. Otherwise good post.

Hard to think of anything worse than Juan Marichal beating John Roseboro over the head with a bat.

Woody Hayes knocking out an opposing player was pretty tasteless also and I think it cost him his coaching career. I can't remember if he coached another college game after the incident.

I wouldn't say he knocked him out, he grabbed him and smacked his shoulder pads. Thats what the kid gets for standing infront of the bench with arms in the air celebrating lol

Was that not in self-defense?

I've always been under the impression that Roseboro took half the blame for the incident, hence their becoming good friends within a few years.

So, you listened to it on the radio? I could be going out on a limb here but, I'm sure it sounded just as bad on the radio as it looked on TV.
