# of games?

I have just bought OOTP5...impressive....just in my first fictional season....i have 2 leagues, each with 2 divisions...10 teams per league, with a total of 20 teams....

Now, I set it up with 110 games....but now I am wondering, is that a good idea for the total amount of games? With 20 teams, what would be a good amount of teams? Would I be able to somehow redo the schedule without deleting the games that has happened already in my season? Or, should I just wait until the season is over, and then add more games? I am using the numbers from 1946 from the Era ballpark factors...

Also, if I do add more games after the season, won't all the records pretty much be smashed next season? I would think so. I really don't know the technicals of baseball, but i do enjoy it...for the strategy purposes...

Anyways...just really wondering what a good number of games would be...I thought 144, or 152....but, what do all you baseball experts advise?

Here is a couple of things:

You can manually edit the schedule (League Set Up) to add more games for your first season.

You can play out the first season as is and generate a new schedule with whatever you decide as the amount either with the In Game Schedule editor or Stickwares schedule editor. The latter I'm sure can be downloaded at:

For 20 teams two division I would go with 154 myself used from the early 1900's ( I think '04 or '05 LeGrande???) until 1961.

I wouldn't worry about the records being smashed after only one season.

ok, thanks guys....154 sounds good....will just go through this season....and then add more games next year....

There is a bit of backstory to this league even...It is after WW2 (1946), and baseball is now America's Favorite Past-time once again...but MLB has nearly gone bankrupt....so, in it's place, from the ashes, rises America Forever Baseball....

just a little something to get me ready to go....I am not actually in control of a team yet...gonna sim a couple years probably, get to know the players...really following the team Olympia Minotaurs...will then start a managing career....

Here are the actual season lengths for MLB:

1876: NL, 70 games
1877-78: NL, 60 games
1879-81: NL, 84 games
1882: NL, 84 games; AA, 80 games
1883: NL and AA, 98 games
1884: NL and UA, 112 games; AA, 110 games
1885: NL and AA, 112 games
1886-87: NL, 126 games; AA, 140 games
1888-89: NL and AA, 140 games
1890: NL, AA, and PL, 140 games
1891: NL and AA, 140 games
1892: NL, 154 games
1893-97: NL, 132 games
1898-99: NL, 154 games
1900: NL, 140 games
1901-03: NL and AL, 140 games
1904-13: NL and AA, 154 games
1914-15: NL, AL, and FL, 154 games
1916-18: NL and AL, 154 games (note that the 1918 season was shortened to approximately 126 games per team due to WWI)
1919: NL and AL, 140 games
1920-60: NL and AL, 154 games
1961: NL, 154 games; AL, 162 games
1962-2003: NL and AL, 162 games

In 1910, the NL considered moving to a 168 game season before the start of the season. The AL had already adopted its 154 game schedule, but said it too would switch to 168 games if the NL did. The NL ultimately voted down the proposal and stayed with 154 games.

Whoa. I'm correcting LGO on a scheduling oversight. You forgot to mention the strike-shortened seasons of 1972, 1981, 1994, and 1995.

Yes, I know about those. But the main emphasis here is on the original schedule lengths, which is why I left those years out.

I doubt most folks are interested in simming strike/lockout shortened seasons. After all, most play the game to avoid such real world downers!
