Red Sox One up the Yankees AGAIN

Theo is the man!!

While we picked up Kim, Sauerbeck, and now Super-stud Scott Williamson, Cashman and the Spankees acquired Prinz, Jesse Orosco, and Dave Dellucci!
oh...and let's not forgot ChokeMando Benitez!
Red Sox are going all the way baby!

And let us not forget the acquisitions of Bill Meuller .330 BA (higher than anyone on Yankees, also the guy who hit 3 homers including 2 grand slams last night), Kevin Millar .298 17 HR's 60 RBI's, Todd Walker .290 9 HR's 50 RBI's, David Ortiz....

Yes I think Theo has worked the Yankees and assured us of victory this year! GO THEO!!!!!!!!!!

Who is talking about the last 85 years?? I am talking about right now! and I am talking about the moves Theo has made to get us where we are today. If you don't want to buy your World Series tickets for Boston, step out of the way!

Obviously not. He also doesn't seem to know anything about baseball since he seems to think that you can assure yourself a victory just by putting people in uniform. There is a little thing called "playing the games" that he kinda forgot about.

It's gonna be an interesting August/September, but nobody is assured of anything just yet (well, ok, the Tigers probably won't win the Central).

IMO we are best off abandoning that sinking ship that is Off Topic to the rats infesting it and just starting a whole new Baseball Forum from scratch.

Hey I know a lot about baseball buddy. I also know you can lose games because of puting people in uniform like the Yankees are finding out with guys like Benitez and Orosco in pinstripes. Cling to ancient history all you want, yankees fans, just dont cry in October when I already TOLD YA so in July!

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- The Yankees' efforts to add another relief pitcher suffered a severe blow last night when two of their top targets were traded elsewhere.

The more painful of the two disappointments was the deal that sent right-handed relief pitcher Scott Williamson from the Cincinnati Reds to the Boston Red Sox. The Yankees had been trying to get Williamson, and this is the second time in less than two weeks they've lost out to Boston on a bullpen deal.

The Red Sox were able to acquire left-hander Scott Sauerbeck from the Pirates, and this second disappointment was sure to upset owner George Steinbrenner, who hates losing to Boston.

"Money can't buy everything," one giddy Red Sox official said last night.

GM Brian Cashman said the Reds contacted him Monday night about Williamson, but the Reds asked the Yankees to send them Triple-A left-hander Brandon Claussen and $2.5 million in cash.

"Claussen and $2.5 million," an incredulous Cashman said. "That's what they wanted for Scott Williamson."

Cashman told them it was out of the question, and that was the end of it.

"I think it's another shrewd move by (Red Sox GM) Theo Epstein, and I think it makes their bullpen better," Cashman said.

The Yankees also had been trying to acquire left-hander Scott Schoeneweis from the Angels. But Schoeneweis, the New Jersey native from Lenape, went to the Chicago White Sox in a trade the Angels announced just before the Yankees took batting practice last night at Edison Field.

The Yankees continue to seek bullpen help, even after adding Bret Prinz from Arizona in the Raul Mondesi deal. They have been pressing the Marlins in an effort to get right-hander Vladimir Nunez, who is making $1.4 million to pitch for the Marlins' Triple-A team, and officials with both teams said last night that such a deal was still a strong possibility. They also could look at Milwaukee's Mike DeJean, Anaheim's Ben Weber and others, including Toronto right-hander Kelvim Escobar.

Escobar is drawing heavy interest from teams interested in starting pitchers, but an angry Steinbrenner could press his team to make a move for Escobar so the Red Sox don't.

BAWHHAHAHHAHAWAWAWAWWAWAWAHAHAHHAHAHHA!!!! The Yankees and their Fat, tub of goo owner are REALLY gripping now!

Definitely. That was great drafting Nomar, and signing Manny. And the trade for Pedro was a brilliant move by Theo. Without him, they would be nowhere.

Is Denton the same guy who started this back in May or something?

I am all for the Yankees losing, but I'm not going to say they're through. If a couple guys get hot, they can do a lot.

LOL. I know you're being sarcastic but Theo has made some great moves.

Millar
Ortiz
Mueller
Walker
Kim
Sauerbeck
Not trading Fossum for fat boy Colon
signing Embree/Timlin/Fox

He totally revamped the bully and offense while keeping enough payroll flexibility to acquire some good players mid season. While the Duke used to get the Bichettes and Lansings of the world, Theo got players who can actually help us this year and who we control through arbitration in the future.

I know he has made some great moves, but it is not just him that got them to where they are today. It is also a lot (mostly) the previous GM because Theo has not really hadtime to make huge changes.

Well, he brought in 3/4 of the IF, a DH, and everyone in the pen except Embree. Not to mention putting together the best offense in baseball. I disagree personally but no biggie. IMO, the changes he's made have been substantial.

Twins15, hit the ejection button NOW. You will lose your paper-thin argument, especially against Red Sox fan.

And I agree that he has made a lot of great moves. But it's not like he had nothing to work with from the start. He had one of the best nucleuses to start with when he got there.

And LL, I will give up the argument soon.

I'll certainly agree with that, it's not like he started with the Dodgers roster or anything.

Ignore the mayor, ever since he went back to his old avatar, he's not as kind and gentle as before
