Bombarded by Ads from Demo

I downloaded the demo after getting a very good recommendation for OOTP. To my surprise and dismay, I was bombarded with pop-up ads everytime I played the game. It got even worse when I tried to run the game without being connected to the Internet. It became unplayable. I even got the pop-ups, although less frequently, when I wasn't playing the game. I had to download and run Spy-bot and Ad-aware to finally get rid of the pop-ups.

I am curious if others had this experience with the demo or this was something I may have picked up while looking for this website. I am loathe to buy this game if I have to put up with those annoying pop-ups. I know I can download a pop-up blocker, but I shouldn't have to do this. Just curious.

I don't think that they are associated with the demo, that would just not be wise.

I get pop ups all the time even when i am not playing the game, they are definitely not associated with the game.

I have no proof, but I would with almost certainty state you had to have gotten ift from somewhere else. I've been around OOTP for almost 3 years now (and others have been around even longer) and nothing I have ever seen would lead me to believe that they would ever even consider doing, let alone actually do, what has happened to you.

Whatever it is you have is something I consider to be one of the worst things that is happening on the internet today and I would put them right at the edge of the virus category. I hope you got you mess cleaned up. We've still got a computer at work that pops up porn ads on its own without warning after doing everything we know how to do here. I know how frustrating it can be. Don't blame 400 studios though.

I downloaded the demo for OOTP4 last year, and there were absoutely no pop-ups or spyware. Also, no pop-ups from this year`s full edition.

This is why you shouldn't surf porn while playing ootp

Seriously though. I've owned ootp2, ootp3, ootp4, and ootp5, and not once have I ever seen a pop-up ad in any of the games or demos. heck, I've never seen a pop-up on any of their web sites or forums for that matter. So yes, the pop-ups are definitely unrelated to ootp.

Opera is the plural of Opus.

to keep it free!!! you sometimes have to pay the people in the porn, but you don't have to pay the people to post in the OOTP forum, so you don't need popups.

I personally use Ad-Aware, but that's a preference.

Most likely the pop-ups are a combination of spyware that's in your browser and the fact that OOTP uses a browser-like interface for many report windows. When you open a report, it triggers an opening of a window (such as an Internet Explorer window) and sets off the spyware that makes the popups activate.

I've run into this situation with too many people getting pop-ups during regular browsing (like doing google searches) and a quick spyware search using Ad-Aware or the above quoted program should do the trick.

Opera started out as a research project in Norway's telecom company, Telenor, in 1994, and branched out into an independent development company named Opera Software ASA in 1995. Opera Software develops the Opera Web browser, a high-quality, multi-platform product for a wide range of platforms, operating systems and embedded Internet products.

It's a web browser. You can set it to reject popups.

It would void the warranty. You should probably exfoliate with a loofah if you can't get Total Minors to work.

Pop-ups

Thanks for the replies. I think the gentlemen( his name escapes me) that said that since OOTP uses a browser interface for reports that this would trigger any pop-up adware hit it right on the head. I've since cleared the adware from my system. The other positive comments regarding OOTP reassures me such that I think I will buy the game. Thanks all.
