Problem with patch?

Ok, I don't know how much information I need to give but here goes nothing. I have a Gateway 2000 with Windows XP and 3.65 GB of Free HD Space. I just put in the new 5.21 patch and now every time I try and open OOTP5 I get a window that says "Out Of Video Memory" and right behind it another screen that says "Error InitDirectDraw" and the game won't open. If you need any other info about my computer just ask and I'll try and see if I can get it.

It sounds like the patch is not properly installed or that you are using an old shortcut to open the game.

Well I tried going back to the 5.11 Patch just so I could at least play the game but I got the same problem popping up.

When I install the patch, I am unzipping the folder and than copying it out of the folder and into the OOTP main file. If this is any help. And also, I tried opening it up from the main OOTP file in case my old shortcut was messed up and it did the same thing.

Is the game closed when you do this? Are you "overwriting" any old files?

Yes the game is closed. Nope, just the old icon to open the game.

If it's any help, the top of the first window says "CreateSurface: Backbuffer" and the title of the second window says "InitApp"

Have you made any other changes to your system? Go into "game config" and toggle the 3D settings.

Thank you. It was the 3D settings. I had the 3D enabled and so I disabled it and it worked. By the way, what does 3D mode do?
